Construction has been fully underway for about a month now on the new Dodge County jail located in the industrial park in Eastman. The county’s contractor, Peter Brown Construction out of Perry, has been working at the site since about mid- March.
The contract between the contractor and the Dodge County Board of Commissioners calls for the construction of the new jail to be completed by March 1, 2011.
The new jail is designed to house one hundred sixty six (166) inmates. The new jail will be up to date on all fire codes and guidelines set forth by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Georgia Sheriff’s Association.

The more I see and hear of Sheriff Hinson, the more I appreciate the job he is doing. Dare we hope that he is not one of the "you pat my back and I'll pat yours" crowd ?? It appears that some of the law enforcement agencies in this county/city are actually just a front for a "puppet-master". It is sad to see that Dodge County has a hard time letting go of the 'old' ways. Discrimination is discrimination, regardless of other factors. Job promotions should always be based on merit, not on who wants what or who is pulling strings to get it. So, it gets pretty disgusting to do your job -correctly--and then get screwed because the boss "owes" somebody. Ever wonder why so many personel come and go in these jobs??

Don't worry Andy Griffith and Barney Fife is comming to help us out. Aunt Bea is already here. I thank God for Eastman which I call a quiet Maberry when one has lived in a large city as I have they begin to appreciate the small town atmosphere. Glad to be back to my roots me Cherokee.

--lol--very funny, Cherokee!! It's true we do already have Aunt Bea, but I really don't think that straight-shooting Andy or accidently-shooting Barney would work in this town. The 'politics' wouldn't set well with them! --lol
