Receive Georgia Legacy of Older Women Award

A great cook and entertainer, she puts her passion and expertise to good use as the proprietor of her own business, “A Touch of Class Catering.” She is also Hospitality Chairperson at First United Methodist Church in Eastman. She has supported the 4-H Clubs, serving as a county, district and state volunteer leader and currently helps with local 4-H events. She serves on the Downtown Development Committee for the city of Eastman. Pittman is the mother of three, grandmother of four and has two great-grandchildren.

Joyce Bowen Jones, grew up and married in Dodge County, still lives on the family farm where she and her husband, the late John Robert “Charlton” Jones, started married life sixty one years ago. She continued her education and athletic career at Georgia Southern, taking on her first 3rd grade teaching position at the tender age of eighteen. She achieved advanced degrees and positions as teacher, librarian, assistant principal and principal, teaching every grade except first and second.

After retirement, she helped many women graduate at the Women’s State Prison in Milan. She later taught at the Men’s Prison. She is a dedicated member in the Eastman Pilot Club and Retired Teachers Association. A church leader and teacher at Antioch Baptist Church, she is a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and continues a life of service to her community.
