Former Dodge County Board of Commissioner Carl Hosford addressed the current board of commissioners about widening the Chester Highway at their meeting on Monday. July 14.
Hosford told the commissioners that the highway was “a disaster waiting to happen”. He explained that when a school bus meets a log truck or 18-wheeler, the buses have to move off on the shoulder of the road to avoid hitting trucks.
Hosford told the commissioners he had been told by interim county manager Bobby Peacock the highway was on the list to be resurfaced using Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) funds this year.
Hosford requested that commissioners use money from the local Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) for road improvement to widen the Chester Highway 12 inches to 18 inches on both sides.
