Ten year old KenShaun Smokes of Eastman is in critical condition after he rode his bicycle into the path of Henry Madison Simpson, age 35, of Cochran at approximately 11:40 a.m. on Monday, April 5 .
According to the Georgia State Patrol, Simpson was traveling east on Georgia Highway 46 when Smokes failed to stop at the stop sign on County Road 269 (Reagan Road) on his bicycle. The report stated that Smokes and two friends (who were also on bicycles) were attempting to cross Georgia Highway 46 into the Eastside Apartment Complex when Smokes failed to yield at the stop sign and traveled into the path of the 2008 Ford Super Duty pick-up driven by Simpson.
Smokes was transported to Dodge County Hospital by Dodge County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and later transported to the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. Simpson was also transported to the Dodge County Hospital by Dodge County EMS for emotional trauma and anxiety. Simpson was later released.
Jason Sapp, age 35, of Eastman, was seriously injured in a vehicle accident at approximately 4:50 p.m. on Monday, April 5.
According to the Georgia State Patrol report, Sapp was traveling north on the Milan/Chauncey Highway when the 1999 Isuzu Rodeo he was driving exited the roadway. Reports stated that once the vehicle left the roadway, it continued to travel north in the ditch, striking a culvert, landing in another ditch, striking an embankment and overturning.
The vehicle landed right side up. Sapp was transported to Dodge County Hospital by Dodge County EMS and later life-flighted to the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.
