Archery team has successful year, plan fundraiser

Although the Dodge County Middle School Archery team has only existed for a short time they have accomplished a great feat. Originally, grant funding made it possible for the school to purchase competition bows in order for the team to compete.

After three short years of competing in the state shoot in Perry, the team has qualified for “National Archery in the Schools” competition in Louisville, Kentucky; home of the “Run for the Roses,” the Kentucky Derby.

The competition will be held May 6 and 7.

More than 6,000 students across the nation will compete for college scholarships and other prizes. Travel plans have not been confirmed thus far.

However, funding for the trip is the sole responsibility of the individual archers. Students, parents and coaches are currently exploring options for funding. If you would like to provide financial assistance and help sponsor these deserving students, please call Dodge County Middle School at 374-6492 or 374-6497. You may leave a message with Tara Dennis or coach Tony Taylor. There will be a bake sale at Sonic on Saturday, April 3 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Please come by and help support the archery team.
