I am writing to express my disappointment with the decision to move the rest of the recreation soccer season indoors. Outdoor play requires learning ball control, dribbling skills and learning to pass into space. The best soccer showcases player speed, creativity and stamina.
The current indoor game is a hybrid fast game where I am seeing little development of these skills in our eight to ten year old children. The ball is just too bouncy, quick and unpredictable on the gym floor. The field is short and narrow, even by small-sides soccer standards.
Dodge County deserves and should want its soccer players to be competitive and skilled, ultimately preparing to play at the high school level. Surrounding counties are preparing their young children through their recreation departments. I feel Dodge County should do no less.
