The Dodge County Indians traveled to Baxley this past Friday night to play the Appling County Pirates in the first round of the 3AAA state playoffs.
It was all Pirates in the first half of the game as Appling County took an early lead in the game 7 to 0 during the first quarter of play.
The Indians were limited to only 45 rushing yards during the first two quarters of play.
The Pirates would put nine additional points on the scoreboard during the second quarter of play with a touchdown and a field goal.
The Indian passing game was shutout during the first half of the game with a loss of 13 yards. The Pirates held them scoreless the entire first half of the game.
Score at halftime was Appling County 16 and Dodge County 0.
Appling County’s offense continued to dominate during the third quarter of play scoring two touchdowns and two successful extra point attempts. The Pirates’ offense was too much for the Indian defense to stop. The Pirates led 30 to 0 at the end of the third quarter.
The Indians did score in the fourth quarter of play with a 26-yard touchdown run by Indian Roscoe Wilcox. A two-point conversion attempt was successful with a pass to Josh Edwards. Eight points on the scoreboard cut the Pirate lead to 30 to 8.
The Indian defense held the Pirate offense to zero points in the fourth quarter.
Final score of the game was Appling County 30 and Dodge County 8.
The Indians finished the season with a 4-7 record and were 1-3 in region play.
