Dodge schools receive state recognition

Schools earning and receiving this honor are North Dodge Elementary (NDES), Mike Hilliard, principal; South Dodge Elementary (SDES), Dr. Elvis Davis, principal; and Dodge County Middle School (DCMS), Davey Sheffield, principal.

North Dodge Elementary School and South Dodge Elementary School have made AYP for seven consecutive years and this is their fifth year as Title I Distinguished Schools. Both schools received a monetary award of $712.00 from Title I. Dodge County Middle School has made AYP for three consecutive years. This is their first year as a Title I Distinguished School. In a letter to Sheffield, State Superintendent Kathy Cox wrote, “You have cast aside labels and social stereotypes and created a school that is focused on building strong communities, informed citizens and lifelong partnerships. I know that you and your staff will not be satisfied until every student is succeeding at the highest levels in all areas. Thank you for all the hard work, long hours and teachable moments. As we raise expectations for all students in our state, schools like yours make me confident we will reach our goal of providing a rigorous and relevant education to all students in Georgia. Congratulations on these outstanding results and thank you for helping Georgia lead the nation in improving student achievement.”

Special recognition goes to the teachers, students, staff and administrators at NDES, SDES, and DCMS for the dedication and hard work required to earn this award. Congratulations to the three Dodge County schools on being selected Title I Distinguished Schools for 2009 – 2010 and being recognized for outstanding student academic achievement in Georgia.
