The Intruders 14 and under fastpitch softball team took first at the 2010 Intruders Invitational Tournament in Gordon Saturday.
Four teams, D.C. Fury, Macon Havoc, Georgia Explosion and the Intruders, braved blustery winds, occasional downpours and colder than anticipated temperatures to finish up the fundraiser late Saturday night.
The round-robin tournament saw all teams face-off with the Georgia Explosion and Intruders making the final cut to the championship game.
The Georgia Explosion is a 12 and under team based in Milledgeville that played up in the 14 and under age division for the tournament. The Intruders are based in Middle Georgia and are sponsored by Amici Italian Cafe in Milledgeville. Intruders coach Tim Turner said the Intruders did what it took to win, but that the team’s performance was not at its usual level. “We have a great bunch of girls, but still we did not play up to our expectations,” Turner said.
The Intruders had to endure the temporary loss of team member Candace Story who underwent surgery recently to repair her shoulder. Turner and the team dedicated the championship trophy to their team mate who came to the tournament to support the Intruders.
