Hurricanes place third in 2010 World Series Qualifier

The girls started the day with an easy 9 to 2 victory over the Firekrackers out of Augusta. Next, they routed the Georgia Blue Blaze by a score of 8 to 1. Their third game was against a much bigger Gwinnett Dawgs, the girls fought hard to come back after giving up several runs in the first two innings, eventually losing their first game by a score of 8 to 6.
In order to have a shot at playing in the championship game the next game had to be won. The girls faced a very fast Gilmer Xplosion team and jumped out to an early 4 0 lead. The Xplosion tied the game in the fourth and it was back and forth until the very end. With the game tied at 7 they were forced to have a shoot out. Gilmer scored a run in their half the inning, but the Hurricanes pushed two runs across the plate for a 9 to 8 victory.
Coach Brian Perdue had to meet with the coordinator to see how where the girls stood as far as runs scored, as the top three teams had matching records of three wins and one loss.
Unfortunately, the news wasn’t good as the Hurricanes would have to settle for third place because the other two teams had scored two more runs than they had.
On a good note since the girls finished in the top five of the tournament they have the opportunity for revenge as they can play again on April 24, 2010 against some of the same teams.
The team will be in action this weekend in Fayetteville for the King of the Mountain Tournament, which is one of the largest tournaments in the state with over 300 teams ranging from 8U to 18U.
Members of the 2010 Hurricanes are Kiley Dix, Kaylee Peterson, Chelsea Brady, Chelsey Hickman, Briana Perdue, Amanda Peters, Taniya Moye, Nakita Wicker, Faith Manning, and Morgan Page.
Coaches for the team are Brain Perdue, Chuck Page, and Phil Moye.
