The Dodge County’s running Warriors and Indians hit the road early on Saturday, August 24, 2013 morning to travel to Perry for their first cross-country meet of the year. Their premier meet for the 2013-14 year was the fourth annual Mid-state Cross Country Classic held at the Perry fairgrounds. This event hosted thirty area teams this year.
The Dodge Warriors were lead by coach Dana Niblett and pounded through the fairgrounds giving it their all. This year’s trio of ladies Abigail Greer, Marissa Hall and Hannah McCranie kicked up dust as they flew through the fairgrounds with splendid run times. Sixth grader, Greer, new to the team, had a run time of 17:13. Returning runner Hall had a run time of 17:16 and McCranie took home 16th place for Dodge County with a run time of 15:46.
The Dodge County Middle School (DCMS) boy Warriors held back nothing as they rocketed across the fairgrounds. Veteran runner, Dakota Rowland had a time of 13:15 placing seventh. C.J. Rich followed close behind him with a time of 13:40 and earning 15th place and Jeremy Mullis grabbed 19th for Dodge with a time of 13:59. Aiden Greer had a run time of 15:41; Heath Sanders 17:26; Ryan Clements 17:31; David Wilson 17:35; Braylaun Riley 17:48; Conner Dennis 17:55 and Jordan Morgan 18:42.
Coach Paula Selph led this Dodge County High School (DCHS) Indians’ cross-country team as they displayed their commendable running skills in the meet. This team although somewhat smaller in comparison to other teams from surrounding counties cannot be underestimated. They showed that coaching skills and the quality of runners Dodge County has may be a great asset than the quantity of runners of nearby schools may have.
This team has gifted runners at the senior level right on down to the freshman level.
The Lady Indians had notable run times. Freshman Brooke Woodard had the top run time of 27:09 and was followed closely by Jamacia Mitchell with 29:57. Aja Murray had a run time of 33:42; Mercedes Brown 35:00; Jemera Mitchell 35:20; Lexis Broch 35:37; Madelyn Pruitt 35:42 and Crystal White 37:16.
The boy Indians made their dash for the finish line. Jacob Danforth led the pack with a run time of 20:31 finishing ahead of the other DCHS runners. Hunter Augins finished with a run time of 21:48; Clayton Scarborough 23:18; Tailour Tripp 25:31; Shyam Patel 26:20; D.J. Daily 30:12; John Burrows 30:55 and Brandon Rowland 31:57.
