Dear Editor:
I open this response with an excerpt from a historically recent book entitled “Sophisms of the Protectionists” -F. Bastiat 1863, note the year, 1863, not 2003.
“We take from you again, in order to compensate you for what we have already taken.”
After reading the opening article entitled “Authority seeks more funds for airport” the “too big to fail” syndrome that has become a political vehicle to pillage this country, even further through taxation, of the present generation’s and its posterity of the value of a person’s labor. This book would open a person’s thoughts and clearly explain our present situation as a nation. The government budget process is nothing short of custom shackles being made to fit future generations.
Sophism to the people of Dodge County
To quote a recently used cliché concerning “chickens coming home to roost” it is apparent that financially everyone wants chickens. The question is.... Whose chickens?
The dilemma arises when they sit down to eat and want other people to provide their fowl and while their chickens are safe for future consumption once they have been allowed to exhaust the resources, nay, the direct result of labor of others around them to their benefit. Are we this ignorant in 2010 with our excellent education system?
Unfortunately; after much desired success in my ventures in life I have recently encountered the obstacle called “reality”. This event has forced me to acknowledge the fact that to achieve my goals I must use the government taxation system as an instrument of plunder to forcefully take from another that which I require, but cannot possibly deserve, to maintain my status quo without altering my present condition in life. The object I seek, very simply, is a portion of their labor to compensate me for reasons I shall not be required to explain.
I would concede and give up some of my luxuries that I maintain on my $18K a year income but if I did so I would not be as “falsely prosperous” as I perceive myself to be and my status as a sinecure would be exposed. I must now cloak myself temporarily as a mendicant in appearances to plunder those who are more fiscally responsible in their affairs.
I find myself in a situation created by lack of foresight where I must approach some local officials, behind closed doors, via an avenue of meetings with those elected by the people to hear and represent their interests. Perhaps with a few promises of mutual favors, quid pro quo (off the record you know), and never in the tight of day, secure my future by using the instrument of Taxation of others to rob them of their labor so that I may secure my future. It is apparent that I can fail, so now I need and demand a portion of your money so that I may continue my ways and perhaps Providence may come my way.
To the people of Dodge County, since I cannot manage my affairs in difficult times and I must press our elected officials to take the money you labor for and give it to me so that I may realize my true desire to succeed. I submit my difficult times are much worse than your difficult times and therefore I must use the electoral system that no longer represents you once in office (unless I know you) to take the product of your labor via taxation, it matters not that I pose as an “authority” (look up the word meaning in a dictionary) or my lack of ability to manage my fiscal affairs properly.
Should you challenge my motives I will offer a sophism in response and proclaim that “you need me and you must surely see that my demands on your labor are in your best interests. Forget the fact I am already taking from you.” For a select few that are employed there are benefits to be realized in the area of the airport. I should not be required to justify my wants or explain my predicament, just allow me access to your money without challenging my already obvious abilities. I am wearing the King’s new clothes. Admire the wardrobe.
As a private Citizen I should not desire another government hand in my pockets. Perhaps I should design or invest in pants solely designed of pockets, and DEEP pockets at that, as future preparation of profit off the growing parasite classes who thinks in terms of “free government money” and to satisfy the growing social programs killing this nation.
A knowledgeable person knows very well that ALL money comes from the private and prudent Citizen who risks his reputation, capital, his very family on the desire to chance success at something he believes in.
All government capital and resources are the product of taxation at the expense of the private Citizen / entrepreneur’s efforts and labor. Government employee pay and taxes are simply private Citizen taxation re-circulated for appearances.
That Federal “grant” was citizen’s money you do not have to pay back! You should have used it wisely. Now you “need” more? I sense that all money you could acquisition would never be enough.
If I may I be so direct as to submit the “Airport Authority” is the result of politics and it is naturally taking the course all political ventures take, primarily the demise Citizen’s capital and resulting in deprivation in order to protect the failure of a self-serving government idea for a hidden few of self-serving investors.
To the “Airport Authority” I offer subtly an aphorism: you are failing to operate within the rules of the most basic principles of economics. (That is your problem. You cannot run a business like a government. It will always fail.)
Your business fees must be considered and passed directly on to the beneficiaries of your services, not taken from the labor of others who have no attachment nor obligation to you or your commerce.
If your services are not beneficial to the community at large, therein may lay the reason for your shortcomings. You simply do no have the public interest or demand to support your operation and it is not the responsibility of the common citizen to compensate your lack of business sense. (That is your solution.)
Have you reduced your pay to the local per capita income level prior to asking for the labor of others who make less and yet suffice?
Perhaps the Airport Authority should consult the services of a successful private businessman or common private employee at the local level.
The basic principles of economics have been time tested, proven and always will be “natural” supply and demand. Government does not promote actual “free trade” in it’s purest form, but uses the power of the “state” to create “artificial trade”, which has always failed for the many and benefited the few in the name of the “State”. The “State” merely creates the restrictions so that no two free private Citizens can conduct a simple private transaction without a third party government) profiting from their labor.
Citizen’s, without doubt cleansing the electoral and political system is an Augean task. The producers of society competing against politicians, their own labor, government created parasite supporters and will not have hold or voice with our political system as it presently stands. There are no checks and balances... and only more taxation will end this financial panacea.
Spending or borrowing one’s way out of debt is a fool’s game. To a private Citizen such measures are financial and personal doom. To a government entity in the financial throes of failure they are measures of success?
It is painfully obvious our elected officials are not willing to represent the people who elected them if the continuation of these methods is allowed to go unfettered.
The blame! Quit blaming other’s for your condition. Each of us has some choice. The fact that we fail to exercise our judgment properly can be attributed to no one other than ourselves, nor should others be made to compensate. Consult your mirror. The culprit for your failure is there, likewise the master of your success.
Citizens. Continue to generate rationalizations for your apathy. Such methods have always worked to the advantage of the political and government employed class. They remain as your shepherds and a few men with a little political sagacity will always prevail over an apathetic and ignorant Proletariat.
Government has now evolved into the protectionist mode for the gain of the State and those who cater to their agenda and taxation has evolved from reasonable to a government sanctioned form of graft maintained by duress.
The end result is obvious to the most casual observer that can manage a checking account. The question remains.
What will the employees of “ government” and those who depend on government to provide for them as if they are the main attraction at a petting zoo and have no understanding of capital comes from. When all illusions of property ownership have failed due to exorbitant taxation and no independent person is willing to labor so that they may be taxed in deprivation to themselves and the benefit of another?
Who will the government tax if everyone works for the government?
One fact is proving to be an unquestioned truth. The Proletariat will never have the desire to learn from our present rote education system. Even the most ignorant can adduce this simply by reviewing the “progress” of the US as a society and education system, in all it’s duplicity, over the past fifty years. I submit the path we are being herded down is not by chance.... but by design. There is a reason the effort desiring history lessons be discontinued of all mention prior to the nineteenth century. So we cannot learn and continue to repeat the Error is the cause of human misery. And so we shall if we do nothing and allow error to continue unbridled on the Sisyphean plan of the architects of our politicians and political class. I must inquire. Is your error my responsibility, thus my misery instead of yours? Is my error your responsibility? I think not.
We, the Citizens, are being “farmed” for our labor and no amount of abnegation will change the cyclic repetition of history if left to the elected aristocracy and their minions at any level. The concept of Private property ownership by a Citizen is but an illusion for expropriation purposes.
If you want to be part of the ‘’progressive future” move to China. They are the industrial US of a century ago. If you want to see the future of the US look to present day Greece, with Europe following close behind. History’s repeated either by design or ignorance. I assure you Governments study history very closely and refine the process always to the government advantage. Truly, there is nothing new under the sun.
