The Dodge County Wrestling Club will be hosting its seventh annual “Kick Start” wrestling camp on Thursday, August 15, 2013 through Saturday, August 17, 2013.
Camp will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. noon at the Dodge Wrestling gym located at the old middle school.
The camp is open to all youth ages six through 14 (not yet in high school). This camp is an excellent opportunity to learn the basics and fundamentals of the sport of wrestling.
Wrestling is a sport that not only builds endurance, strength and flexibility, it also instills confidence, the ability to handle adversity and toughness. Wrestling is also widely considered to be a beneficial sport for students working to excel in other sports such as football.
Roddy White, a wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons and a two-time state wrestling champion in high school, was quoted in the USA Today talking about the benefits of wrestling, “Wrestling makes you a better football player. It is a great sport for discipline and it breeds toughness. You learn a lot about matchups, quickness, balance, and getting away from guys. It helped me tremendously.”
Hall of fame coach John Madden once said, “I would have all of my offensive linemen wrestle if I could.”
The Dodge County Wrestling club is coming off of its most successful season ever, claiming two state champions a state runner-up and four additional state placers this past year. We are excited to build on that success this season and many more to come.
