While I wanted to rebuild downtown, the doors did not open to allow it to happen. However, thanks to Jan West, of Jan West Realty, an opportunity and idea presented itself to allow me to expand and create something new. Thank you to Mitchell and Susan Coffee for taking the necessary steps to have 5606 Oak Street rezoned from professional to commercial to house a new business and for embracing this wonderful idea.
The Eastman Planning and Zoning Committee consisting of members Arnold Rye, Martha Burney, Horace Mullis, Mike Pruett and David Whitten listened to our idea and voted unanimously to move forward with rezoning.
Eastman City Council members Bobby Slye, Raymond Mullis, Buddy Pittman and Floyd Walker also voted unanimously to approve the planning and zoning committee’s request.
Chuck Eckles and Cindy Eckles, for whom I work for at Dodge County’s local newspaper, have been supportive and flexible with my work schedule to assist me in getting this new business off the ground. Thank you.
A special thank you to Philip Cadwell, health inspector for Dodge County, for his excellent guidance for our commercial kitchen setup. Much appreciation to Randy Knight, City of Eastman’s building inspector for his recommendations and guidance.
And, last but not least, a special thanks to Rayford Spires, who always is willing to help me run errands and pick up things for me, and I don’t even have to call! You’re the best, Mr. Rayford.
The support and prayers of our community, the many friends who kept nudging me to not give up and my mother, Victoria Grenade, who stands with me, encourages me and supports me has resulted in a new business that is planned to open on August 1 at 5606 Oak Street.
Without all of you, I could not have realized reopening.
The Eclectic Spoon, marketplace and eatery, is the result of the ideas of many. It will be a place where we can all enjoy food and fellowship and shop.
On behalf of the original crew, Ann Peacock, Emma Jean Spires, Alice Hawkins, Sheila Deloach, Trena Marchant, VeLisa Williams and Jill Miller and our new partners Shellie Hargrove and Trina Papel, we thank all of you for standing with us and supporting us as we embark on a new adventure.
We encourage all of you to support our local merchants, especially in these economic times. It is small businesses that help sustain a community.
Sincerely,
Roy Grenade
