On Wednesday, May 8, 2013, the Dodge County High School (DCHS) Indians hosted the Callaway Cavaliers in the “Sweet 16” round of the state play-offs.
The first game of the double header had Jordan Smith on the mound for the Indians. Smith pitched well going the full seven innings allowing four runs, three earned on eight hits while striking out nine.
The Indians would put together 10 hits but couldn’t get the big hit when they needed it.
Dodge County would leave 11 runners on base several of those being in scoring position.
Hitting for the Indians were Austin Clements two for three with a double, Smith two for four, Aron Chick two for four, Lane Crummey one for two, Lance Pruett one for three with a double, Andrew Hardy one for three and Josh Perdue one for three.
The Indians were only able to push two runs across and lose the first game four to two.
Chick got the start in the second game. He would pitch the full game allowing only one run on seven hits while striking out eight.
The Indians would get the bats going in this second game. They only had two more hits than the first game but were able to put 14 runs on the board.
Hitting for the Indians were Smith two for three with a home run, Cain Peterson two for three with a double, Clements two for three with a double, Chick two for three, Hunter Graham two for four with a double, Pruett one for three and Hardy one for one.
The Indians and the Cavaliers would play the deciding game in the three game series on Thursday, May 9, 2013.
The Indians would send sophomore Pruett to the mound for his first post-season start. He pitched well giving up three runs; one earned on nine hits and struck out five going the full seven innings.
Dodge County’s defense stepped up with timely double plays and key outs.
The Indians’ batters continued to hammer Callaway’s pitching and put together 14 hits that led to 12 runs.
Hitting for the Indians were Crummey two for three, Hardy two for three with a double, Clements three for five, Pruett two for four with a double, Smith one for two, Josh Perdue one for four, Peterson one for four, Graham one for four and Chick one for five.
Indians took the series and advance to the “Elite 8” to take on Cartersville with the first game of that series to be played in Eastman on Tuesday, May 14, 2013.
