The 2013 summer school schedules for Dodge County Middle School (DCMS) and Dodge County High School (DCHS) were approved by the Dodge County Board of Education this past Thursday at the school board’s regular scheduled meeting.
Summer classes for DCMS will begin on June 3, 2013 and end on June 26, 2013. School will be held Monday through Thursday with no classes on Friday. The full session fee will be $150.00 for in-county students and $300.00 for out-of-county students. A $10.00 per day fee will be charged for students making up attendance.
Summer classes for DCHS will occur in two sessions. The first session of classes will begin on June 3, 2013 and end June 26, 2013. The second session of classes will begin on July 8, 2013 and end on July 31, 2013. School will be held Monday through Thursday with no classes on Friday. The fees will be $150.00 per 1/2 unit course for 15-day session for in-county students and $300.00 per 1/2 unit course for 15-day session for out-of-county students.
Superintendent Dr. Melinda Dennis recognized several groups of students for Examples of Excellence. The DCMS archery team, artist students from DCMS, team members from the DCHS archery team, Millie Johnson and the special education teachers of the year and system-wide teachers of the year were recognized.
Special local option sales tax (SPLOST) income for the month January 2013 was $197,156.57. The fund balance for SPLOST as of March 2013 is $4,133,425.00.
SPLOST expenditures during March 2013 totaled $23,525.00. This expenditures were for technology, architect fees, a printer and a projector.
The school board approved the sale of a long list of surplus items from the schools. The items will be available to school employees for two weeks. After the two-week period, if any items are left, they will become available to the public.
The school board adopted a resolution to approve a local facilities plan. This is a comprehensive facilities study required under Georgia law and the Georgia Board of Education rule.
The facilities plan will be submitted to the Georgia Board of Education for approval.
The school board approved the seamless summer nutrition program for this summer. The proposed dates of operation will be Monday through Friday, May 28 through July 26, 2013 with the exception of July 1 through 5, 2013. The DCHS cafeteria will be used for the program. This program provides meals to the children of Dodge County throughout the summer.
Fuel and a school bus were approved by the school board for the Dodge County archery teams to travel to Louisville, Kentucky to compete at the national tournament. This will be considered a field trip expense at a cost of $1,772.80. The Bullseye Booster Club submitted the request.
The school board accepted the resignations and retirements of Gina Cook, Allen Cartwright, Susan Graham, Kelly Gray, Helen Evans, Shirley Maddox, Christian White, Betty Hines and Maxine Johnson.
Additions to the substitute list for custodians included Tina Austin, Natasha Colson, Victoria Corson, Charrlee Groves, Lois Sheffield and Whitney Taylor.
Additions to the substitute nurse list include Latrelle Clark.
Additions to the substitute teacher list include Jackie Barlow and Melissa Burkhalter.
Employee Eugene Goolsby was approved to work as a part-time shop mechanic.
Leaves of absences were approved for Rachael G. Spires and Regina Winborn and DCHS paraprofessional Laura Smith for student teaching.
The next regular scheduled meeting of the Dodge County Board of Education is set for Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 6:00 p.m.
