The Dodge County High School (DCHS) Indians had an amazing win last week.
The Lady Indians started their good fortune when they traveled to Wheeler County and came home with an astonishing win with a 12-1 victory. This definitely put them on an all-time high.
Aja Murray and Claire Peacock both had five goals that put them up by 10 points.
Following their lead was Nikki Miller and Sierra Brookes with goals of their own. Goalkeeper Brooke Best had an easy night of playing due to our offenders running the field.
Player of the game was Claire Peacock
Friday night, March 15, 2013 the Indians traveled to Thomson, to take on our toughest region opponent. It was a hard fought game, but the Lady Indians came out on top with a win of three to two.
Murray once again proved that she has what it takes when the going gets tough. She added two more goals to her statistics Peacock added one more goal to hers.
The game was a tough one and every one of the girls had to play hard from the defenders with Taylor Hall and Samantha Campbell stepping up to the plate to help defend their territory. Offensively, Breezy Strohmetz and Nikki Miller continued to rush the opponents and steal the ball on their end of the field passing to Murray and Peacocks for goals.
Every team member contributed to the win of this game and each should be congratulated.
Player of the week was Aja Murray.
The DCHS Indians came off of their loss last week to Jefferson County with renewed energy and a willingness to not be stopped, regardless of the cost. They decided that they would give everything they had to win the next region game. That’s exactly what happened.
We started with a good offside trap that stopped Thomson from scoring goals.
Thomson had five offside calls that stopped their attempts. The defense, Jaye Moye, Calen Dennis, Jarrett Lee and Walker Spradley held the line. Thomson adjusted and started playing the long ball waiting for the ball just long enough to beat our guys to it and score. They had a player, number 10 that was fast and beating our guys with a long ball.
The first half of the game was playing defense with only nine shots to the goal. We went into the locker room with a score of zero to two and adjusted format and switched Cole Honeycutt and Moye. Doing this allowed Honeycutt to match their speed and let Moye provide a more offensive attack. Moye produced good steals and hard kicks to our forwards. Honeycutt shut down their offense.
The second half was spent on their side of the field. With this win, we are half way through the season and in first place. We have three home region game and come support Indian Soccer.
Our first goal was good “give and go” teamwork. Hunter Augins passed the ball to Colby Jones who passed to Mitch Tanner. Tanner took the opportunity to secure our first goal against Thomson. The second goal, was a corner shot kicked by Augins to Tanner. The third goal was Augins. The fourth goal was a long ball to Tanner and the fifth goal was a corner shot from Augins. Other attempts at goal were from John Burrows, Moye and Honeycutt. Greg Pittman had six saves at goalkeeper. The final score was five to four, effectively putting Dodge County Indians first place in their Region.
Player of the week is Mitch Tanner.
Stats for the game: Greg Pittman, 13 saves at goal; Jaye Moye, one shot and one steal; John Burrows, one shot; Cole Honeycutt, three shots; Hunter Augins two goals, six shots and two assists; and Mitch Tanner three goals and 13 shots.
Thomson comes to our house on Friday, March 22, 2013. They will be coming with a vengeance to get that first place title back, so be sure to come out and support the DCHS Lady Indians and the DCHS Indians.
