Almost two years after completion, construction issues continue to be the problem as to why the new Dodge County jail cannot be opened and occupied.
According to Dodge County Sheriff Lynn Sheffield, the maintenance problems are being resolved. However, the roof leak is the main reason the move to the new jail cannot happen.

What? Come on DC! Jeff Hinson couldn't get it opened...now the new Sheriff can't get it opened! This is poor leadership by McCranie and company. How can this be?

We need to get rid of the whole lousy bunch of the so called commissioners. They have done a poor job of representation. Let's have a recall and see if we can get candidates that actually care about the good of the county, and are not self-seeking!

Run for office yourself next time. Quit whining and complaining and actually do something about it if you're not satisfied with the officials we vote into office.

correct me if I am wrong but the jail is not being help up by the commissioners but by both the last and current sheriff. Both are saying we need new staff but why are no staff being trained. and if we need new staff how are we holding people in the jails now. What is wrong with the old staff. I know the place is bigger but they reported that it was moduler and that smaller section could be opened. Why not now? Sounds like the sheriff not the commissioners.

If you had a new house built. Would you move into it if you knew that it had a leaky roof? Would you make the contractor fix it first? Do you think your insurance provider might cover any claims resulting from issues with water damage to the building or contents in it? I agree it is laughable how long it has taken with this project. But I wouldn't set up shop until that leak was gone. First, The grinder held it up. Now the leak is holding up. Hopefully this will be the last delay (fingers crossed).
