The Dodge County High Indians basketball team split two games last week against Screven County and Jefferson County. The Indians defeated Screven County on Friday, February 5 by a score of 83-81 and lost to Jefferson County on the road last Saturday, February 6 by a score of 91-77. The Indians are now 12-11 overall 6-4 in the sub region.
Dodge has two final regular season games this week as they travel to Hawkinsville on Tuesday, February 9 at 6:00 p.m. and then to West Laurens on Friday, February 11 at 6:00 p.m. The Indians finished in third place in the sub region behind Dublin and Vidalia. The third place finish puts them against the second place team from the other side of the region in their first game of the region tournament. The Indians will play Laney on Thursday, February 18 at 5:30 in their first game of the tournament. The Region 3 tournament will be held Tuesday, February 16 through Saturday, February 20 at Brewton-Parker College in Mt. Vernon.
The Indians led 16-10 after one quarter of play with Screven on Friday. Jordan Jones led Dodge with five points in the quarter including a three-pointer. Screven came back to take 38-37 halftime lead over the Indians. Greg Butler lead Dodge with seven points in the second followed by Tamius Lemon and Justice Burch with six points each. Screven outscored Dodge 20-18 in the third quarter to keep their lead at 58-55. Butler again led with six points in the third quarter. Leonard Floyd followed with five. The Indians tied the game three times in the first minutes of the fourth quarter before taking the lead for good at 68-67 with 3:55 left. The Indians hit nine of 11 free throws down the stretch to take the win 83-81. Tamius Lemon had 10 of his game high 23 points to lead Indians in the final quarter. Final scoring for the Indians against Screven was: Tamius Lemon, 23 points; Greg Butler, 19 points; Leonard Floyd, 15 points; Curtis Rushing, six points; Justice Burch, six points; Herschel Anderson, five points; Jordan Jones, five points; Martayvius Walker, four points.
Dodge led Jefferson County 13-9 after one quarter on Saturday. Jordan Jones led the Indians with a three-pointer in the first quarter. Jefferson outscored the Indians 36-16 in the second to take a 45-29 halftime lead. Tamius Lemon led the Indians six points in the quarter. Dodge trailed 63-43 after three quarters. Leonard Floyd led the Indians with four points in the third. Dodge outscored Jefferson 34-27 in the final quarter but fell to the Warriors 91-77. Lemon again led with 12 points in the final quarter. Final scoring for the Indian against Jefferson County was: Tamius Lemon, 18 points; Leonard Floyd, 14 points; Jordan Jones, 11 points; Greg Butler, eight points; Justice Burch, eight points; Herschel Anderson, five points; Curtis Rushing, five points; Martayvius Walker, four points.
