Three Dodge County High School Grappling Indians advanced to the Georgia State East Sectional Tournament at Jefferson High School by placing in the area tournament recently. This is the largest number of wrestlers Dodge County has ever had placing in the area tourny with hopes of earning a state tournament spot.
This year freshmen Dylan Rowland and Will Morgan placed third at 103 pounds and 112 pounds respectfully and became Dodge County’s first freshmen wrestlers to advance.
Also earning a spot at the sectional tournament was junior and third year varsity wrestler Rhett Honeycutt at 140 pounds. Each of these wrestlers won their consolation finals bout and earned a bronze medal.
The East sectional is traditionally a very tough tournament as the top four wrestlers from four eastern regions will battle it out to determine who the top eight wrestlers are that will advance to the Georgia state tourney.
In the past two years, Dodge County has had one wrestler earn a spot at the state tournament each year.
