The Dodge County High Squaws basketball team defeated East Laurens and Dublin last week to finish out their sub region games for the season. The Squaws defeated East Laurens on Tuesday, January 26 by a score of 49-28 and Dublin on Friday, January 29 by a score of 53-40.
The sixth ranked Squaws are now 18-3 overall and 8-2 in the sub region. The Squaws are in second place in the sub region behind undefeated Vidalia and will go into the region tournament in a couple weeks as a number two seed from sub region B in region 3AA.
Dodge has two region cross over games scheduled this week as they host Screven County Friday, February 5 for Senior night at 6:00 p.m. and then travel to Jefferson County Saturday, February 6 at 4:00 p.m. They will travel to Hawkinsville on Tuesday, February 9 at 6:00 p.m. for a non-region game.
The Squaws jumped out to 9-2 lead over East Laurens in the first last Tuesday. Michelle Mitchell led Dodge with five points in the quarter. Senior Nisha Walker was honored during the first quarter for scoring the 1000th point of her high school career. The Lady Falcons outscored the Squaws 12-11 in the second quarter but Dodge held a 20-14 lead at the half. Mitchell again led with four points in the second. Dodge outscored the Lady Falcons 17-7 in the third quarter. Jaye Hilliard led the Squaws with six points in the third quarter.
The Squaws continued to roll in the fourth quarter as they took the win by a score of 49-28. Mitchell led Dodge with four points in the final quarter.
Final scoring for the Squaws against East Laurens was: Michelle Mitchell, 15 points; Nisha Walker, 10 points; Jaye Hilliard, seven points; Tahitia Butler, four points; Kadejah Carson, four points; Kemiya Harrell, three points; Staci Ross, three points and Yaleisa Burns, two points.
In Friday’s game with Dublin, the Squaws trailed the Lady Irish 12-6 at the end of one quarter. Michelle Mitchell, Tahitia Butler and Yaleisa Burns each scored two points for Dodge. Dodge outscored the Lady Irish 8-5 in the second quarter but still trailed 17-14 at the half. Tahitia Butler led Dodge with six points in the second quarter. The Squaws finally pulled ahead of the pesky Lady Irish 28-25 after three quarters. Freshman Kadejah Carson led with seven points in the quarter for Dodge. Dublin kept things close in the final quarter but the Squaws finally pulled away for a 53-40 win. Yaleisa Burns led Dodge with eight points in the final quarter.
Final scoring for the Squaws against Dublin was: Tahitia Butler, 13 points; Yaleisa Burns, 11 points; Michelle Mitchell, eight points; Kadayasha Jones, eight points; Kadejah Carson, seven points; Nisha Walker, five points and Staci Ross, one point.
