Treat us the same way you want to be treated

We have a job that we do to service our customers when they eat out, to make sure that the customer gets what they need while eating. lt may not seem to most of our customers that we do a lot of work for our pay. I’ve worked as a waitress for 30 years and I do it because I enjoy meeting people and working with the public. The pay is under $3.00 an hour for most waitress plus our tips. Taxes are taken out on tips. I am writing to say that I work for what I make. I do my job to make sure that all customers that eat there when I work gets what they need, because that’s how I earn my living, and make sure my children get what they need. My tips and my pay which is under $3.00 an hour is what I live on, as do most waitresses and servers. When my family eats out at a restaurant the tip we leave depends on the service we receive.
It really upsets me, and I know times are hard for everyone. But when they come in an eat lunch and get the service they need, then get up and walk out without leaving a $1.00 at least, for my services. I have bills to pay also as do all waitresses, and we do clean up behind you, and you don’t have the dishes, tables or sweeping to do.
If you have the money to eat out in a place that you are waited on at all, by a waitress or server, you need to think about this. We do not make $7.25 or more an hour, we earn ours one dollar at a time. If you as a customer get the service you need to make your meal good/then that waitress has done her job. Most of you think that if you eat at a buffet that we make more. You are so wrong, we do more for less and make sure you get all you need. Think about how you would feel if the bills keep going up and you can’t make it to pay your bills with what your customers pay you. And you’re doing the very best you can to please your customers. If you don’t eat and get good service we don’t get paid. You as a customer pay us to get the service you need. It is the way of life. l enjoy my job and serve my customers with a smile and a thank you. How would you feel if the majority of your pay came from the customers you serve? All we ask is to be treated the same way you, as a customer, want to be treated. If you are a tipping customer, your help is appreciated.
