The Dodge County High Indians basketball team won three games last week to put them third place behind Dublin and Vidalia in the sub region. Dodge defeated Bleckley County 56-53 on Tuesday, January 19; Vidalia 48-44 on Friday, January 22 and Southeast Bulloch 51-30 on Saturday, January 23. The three wins improve the Indians to 9-10 overall and 4-4 in the sub region.
The Indians have a chance to avenge two earlier sub region losses this week as they host East Laurens on Tuesday, January 26 at 6:00 p.m. and Dublin on Friday, January 29 at 7:00 p.m.
In last Tuesday’s game against Bleckley County, the Indians held a 17-11 lead over the Royals after one quarter. Jordan Jones led the Indians with two three-pointers in the first. The Indians extended their lead to 31-23 at halftime by outscoring the Royals 14-12 in the second. Jones had five points including a three-pointer to lead the Indians in the second quarter. The Indians held at 43-34 lead after three quarters with Leonard Floyd leading the Indians with six points in the quarter. Bleckley County outscored the Indians 19-13 in the final quarter but Dodge held on for the 56-53 win. Floyd and Rusty Selph each had four points each to lead the Indians in the final quarter. Final scoring for the Indians against Bleckley County was: Leonard Floyd, 17 points; Jordan Jones, 13 points; Tamius Lemon, nine points; Greg Butler, eight points; Rusty Selph, four points; Curtis Rushing, three points.
On Friday, the Indians hosted Vidalia and trailed 11-8 after one quarter. Jordan Jones had the first of his four three-pointers in the game to led Dodge in the opening quarter. Tamius Lemon led Dodge with seven points in the second quarter followed by Jones with two more three-pointers as the Indians outscored Vidalia 18-10. The Indians led 26-21 at the half. Vidalia outscored Dodge 11-5 in the third quarter to take 32-31 lead. Leonard Floyd and Greg Butler each scored two points in the third. Dodge took the lead back at 35-34 with 5:25 left in the game and never relinquished it as they went on to win 48-44 over the previously ranked and second place team in the sub region. Justice Burch led Dodge with six points in the final quarter and Tamius Lemon hit two free throws with 5.2 seconds left to seal the win. Final scoring for the Indians against Vidalia was: Jordan Jones, 12 points; Tamius Lemon, 10 points; Justice Burch, six points; Greg Butler, four points; Leonard Floyd, four points; Martaveyus Walker, four points; Herschel Anderson, three points; Curtis Rushing, two points.
The Indians traveled to Southeast Bulloch High School on Saturday, January 23 for a region crossover game with the Yellow Jackets. Dodge lead 8-6 after one quarter.
Rusty Selph led the Indians with a three pointer in the quarter. Selph had eight of his game high 18 points in the second quarter to lead Dodge to 26-17 lead at the half. Selph hit his third three-pointer of the game in the third quarter as the Indians led 35-23 after three. Selph and Jordan Jones each had four points in the final quarter as Dodge took the win 51-30.
Final scoring for the Indians against Southeast Bulloch was: Rusty Selph, 18 points; Tamius Lemon, eight points; Jordan Jones, seven points; Leonard Floyd, six points; Justice Burch, four points; Martaveyus Walker, four points; Greg Butler, four points; Herschel Anderson, two points.
