The Grappling Warriors recently competed in their first middle school regional tournament at Dublin Middle School.
Taking on wrestlers from eight schools and being the newest team in the group, the Warriors turned in some very impressive performances and represented their school in grand fashion.
After a full evening of wrestling, three grappling warriors stood on the medal platforms signifying a remarkable accomplishment in their wrestling careers. At 95 pounds, co-captain Jacob Danforth, turned in an impressive performance in each bout falling short in the finals to a very experienced wrestler and settling for a Silver medal.
First year wrestlers Trey Mosely, 100 pounds and Tad Honeycutt, 105 pounds also wrestled exceptionally well beating more experienced opponents in several very close bouts. They both earned a Bronze medal for their efforts and the respect of teammates and coaches.
Several wrestlers earned a 4th place finish in their regional debut and fell just short of the medal places. Cole Honeycutt, 115 pounds, perhaps the teams most aggressive and skilled wrestler, battled against the toughest competition in the tournament and although he didn’t place, his future is very bright on the wrestling mat.
Also earning a 4th place finish was Witt Campbell, 110 pounds, who recorded his first career pin and wrestled up two weight classes to participate. Chandler Cannon, 160 pounds; Keenan Evans,171 pounds; and Tyler Gruben, 189 pounds rounded out the 4th place finishers for the grappling warriors. Also wrestling were JT Shields, 80 pounds; Austin Soles, 85 pounds; Brandon Rowland, 90 pounds; and Brandon Lundsford, 135 pounds.
