DCHS junior class creates new tradition

On Monday, December 14, the Class of 2011 hosted the first DCHS Ring Ceremony. At this event, speeches were given by the members of the Class Ring Committee about the history and traditions of the class ring.
Class rings are symbols of school pride, but with the ability to personalize each ring, students can also showcase the clubs and sports they participate in during their high school days.
“I think that the students and their parents enjoyed making this milestone significant with a ceremony,” says Ring Committee member Katelyn Bollhorst.
The climax of the ceremony was the moment when the class rings were to be handed out. At this time, each participant in the ceremony was called forward and presented with the class ring by his or her parents.
“This was the best part of the ceremony,” says Ring Committee member Taelor Rye. “It was a genuine moment between the parents and their children.”
At the end of the ceremony, the juniors simultaneously placed their class rings on their fingers, symbolizing the unity of the class. This also symbolized a significant moment in the journey ahead to senior year.
As for future ring ceremonies, the DCHS administration would gladly be a part.
“I think the ring ceremony was very classy,” says Dr. Susan Long, DCHS principal. “We would love to have it as an established tradition at DCHS.”
