Dodge County Sheriff’s Deputies solved a residential burglary that recently occurred on Ben Giddens Road near Eastman.
Deputies were able to recover jewelry stolen from the burglary. Sheriff’s Investigators arrested and charged Blake Pearce (age 22) of Eastman for one (1) count of burglary. Investigators also arrested and charged Trey Matthews (age 22) of Eastman for one (1) count of burglary and one (1) count of possession of marijuana. Matthews was in possession of small amount of suspected marijuana on his person when he was taken into custody by the Investigator.
Sheriff’s Investigators are currently investigating two commercial burglaries that have occurred in the county. Last week Wholesale Sign Supply Company in Rhine was broken into. Investigators recovered some physical evidence from the scene and are following leads in the case. Investigators are also investigating another burglary which recently occurred at the Heart of Georgia Cinemas on the Cochran Highway. A similar burglary occurred at a theater in Athens in which the building was entered in the same way and both of theater’s safes were removed. Investigators are working with Athens-Clarke County Police in the investigation. Anyone with information on any of these burglaries is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office.
An alert Deputy recovered a stolen vehicle in Milan last week. The deputy observed a blue Ford Crown Victoria which made an exaggerated wide turn. The deputy got in behind the vehicle to observe the driver’s actions at which point the deputy observed that the vehicle did not have a license plate. The deputy stopped the vehicle for the tag violation. The vehicle was driven by a fourteen (14) year old juvenile. The investigation during the traffic stop revealed that the juvenile had stolen a stored vehicle from a family member’s residence while the family member was not home. The juvenile was arrested and charged with theft by taking of a motor vehicle, driving while unlicensed, operating a vehicle without a valid tag, and operating a vehicle without insurance. The vehicle was released back to the owner. The charges have been bound over to the Juvenile Court.
As of late Monday evening there were a total of sixty two (62) inmates in the Dodge County Jail. Sheriff Jeff Hinson stated that the site preparation for the new jail has been completed. Department of Correction’s construction crews are expected to begin next week working on the foundation for the new jail.
