On January 1, 2010 at approximately 2:10 a.m., Eastman police officers received a 911 call to 5300 Ogden Street, where a shooting had occurred.
Upon arrival, the victim, Nick Jenkins, age 29 of McRae, was lying in the yard with a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim had been shot with a 9mm pistol.
Arrested at the scene was Cale Dixon Yawn, age 39 of 120 King Road in Eastman.
Yawn was transported to the Dodge County jail, and charged with aggravated assault.
The victim was transferred to a hospital in Macon where he is listed in stable but critical condition.
Sheriff Jeff Hinson’s deputies continue to make drug arrests throughout Dodge County. On Tuesday afternoon, December 29, sheriff’s investigators served a search warrant at a residence on Old Daniel’s Church Road. Deputies discovered eighteen (18) plants of marijuana growing inside the residence and recovered several items of stolen property. Cameron James Taylor (age 18) of Eastman, was arrested and charged with manufacturing marijuana, one (1) count of felony theft by taking and one (1) count of misdemeanor theft by taking.
On New Year’s Eve night Michael Thomas (age 18) of Eastman, was arrested by deputies on 17th Avenue in Eastman. Thomas fled from deputies on foot and was apprehended by pursuing deputies. Thomas has been charged with possession of marijuana, possession of Schedule IV narcotics, failure to keep prescription drugs in original container and obstruction.
Deputies were called to assist Department of Natural Resource (DNR) Rangers December 28 in investigating a suspicious person camping illegally on DNR property at the public fishing area. DNR rangers and deputies have arrested and charged Sidney Mitchell Stevens (age 51) of Eastman, with possession of marijuana.
Georgia State Patrol (GSP) troopers made a traffic stop on the W.P.A. Road December 27 and arrested the driver, Emily Sharna Dorris (age 41) of Eastman, for DUI and possession of marijuana. A passenger in the vehicle, Gregory Keith Smith (age 42) of Eastman, was also arrested by troopers and charged with possession of marijuana.
Sheriff’s investigators have arrested Tracy Keith Hines (age 35) of Chauncey, on December 29 in connection with the previously reported thefts which occurred at Xtra Tuff Trailers in Eastman. Hines has been charged with felony theft by taking in connection with the investigation. The following day investigators arrested Hines’ mother, Betty Strickland (age 53) of Chauncey. Strickland has been charged with obstruction after she allegedly hindered deputies during the course of their investigation.
Sheriff’s investigators have arrested and charged Laron Guest (age 35) of Eastman, with aggravated assault and cruelty to children as the result of an ongoing investigation with the Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS).
Efrain Rodriguez (age 19) of Eastman, was arrested by deputies on December 28 for stalking. Deputies have had numerous domestic complaints on Rodriguez. While the alleged victim was in the magistrate’s office attempting to get legal relief, Rodriguez entered the assistant magistrate judge’s office to allegedly harass the victim.
