Coach Lee Campbell, head coach of the Dodge County High School Indians, has been chosen by SportsLink, owner and producer of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, as a 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl Game coach.
The 2010 U.S. Army All-American Bowl will feature 90 of the nation’s top high school football players and 16 of the nation’s most respected high school coaches in an East vs. West showdown. The Bowl will be televised on Saturday, January 9, 2010 from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas live on NBC at 12:00 noon central standard time.
As a game coach, Campbell will have the unique opportunity to meet and coach today’s top high school football players and tomorrow’s college and NFL greats. For example, U.S. Army All-American alumni include NFL stars such as Adrian Peterson (Minnesota Vikings), Reggie Bush (New Orleans Saints), Tommie Harris (Chicago Bears), Mark Sanchez (New York Jets), DeSean Jackson (Philadelphia Eagles), and collegiate U.S. Army All-American alumni such as Tim Tebow (Florida), Jimmy Clausen (Notre Dame), Joe McKnight (USC), Eric Berry (Tennessee), Noel Devine (West Virginia) and C.J. Spiller (Clemson).
Coach Lee Campbell has just completed his second year as head coach of the Dodge County High Indians. A graduate of Hawkinsville High School, Coach Campbell lettered four years in football and baseball. As a senior, he made the All Middle Georgia Team and signed a scholarship to West Georgia College. A graduate of Georgia Southwestern State University, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in History Education. In nine years at HHS, he had a record of 85-28-1 with his teams winning four region championships and making the playoffs eight years, including three straight appearances in the Georgia Dome. Coach Campbell received Region 4A Athletic Director of the Year (2001 and 2004) and Region 4A Head Football Coach of the Year (2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004).
In 2003 and 2004, Coach Campbell’s teams won back-to-back State Championships while finishing with a 29-0-1 record. Coach Campbell received the Associated Press and Atlanta Journal Constitution Class A Coach of the Year (2003 and 2004), the Atlanta Touchdown Club 2004 NFL High School Coach of the Year and the 2003 Class A Coach of the Year. In 2003, the Macon Telegraph named him the All Middle Georgia Coach of the Year and he was the Macon Touchdown Club Coach of the Year. He was also selected to coach in the GACA North-South All Star Game in 2003. In December 2005, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association.
Coach Campbell began his coaching career at Hawkinsville as an assistant in football and baseball. He then moved to AAAA Camden County where he was offensive coordinator and head wrestling coach. His first head football coaching position was at Montgomery County where he also served as athletic director for three years.
Coach Campbell is married to the former Alicia Simmons, originally from Hawkinsville. She is a teacher at Dodge County High School and is currently pursuing a doctorate in curriculum studies at Georgia Southern University. They have two children, Kelsey, a junior and the team’s athletic trainer; and Witt, a seventh grader, team manager and future Indian.
