The Dodge County Indians basketball team won two of their three games last week to improve 3-2 and 1-1 in the sub region. The Indians lost 54-59 on the road at Toombs County on Tuesday, December 8 and rebounded with two wins over the weekend as they defeated Bleckley, 75-49 on Friday December 11 and then defeated Swainsboro, 44-31 on Saturday, December 12.
The Indians trailed 11-12 after one quarter against Toombs County. Tamius Lemon and Cyprin Burse each scored four points in the first quarter to lead the Indians. The Indians were outscored 18-11 in the second quarter as the Bulldogs led 31-22 at the half. Burse had six points for Dodge in the quarter to lead the scoring for the Indians. Dodge outscored Toombs 20-14 in the third quarter to cut into the Bulldog lead and trailed by 45-42 after three quarters. Burse had eight points to lead the scoring again. Dodge was outscored 14-12 in the final quarter and fell to Toombs by a final score of 59-54.
Final scoring for Dodge against Toombs was: Cyprin Burse, 20 points; Leonard Floyd, 13 points; Tamius Lemon, 12 points; Rusty Selph, five points; Herschel Anderson, four points.
The Indians trailed 13-12 after one quarter against Bleckley County on Friday. Dodge outscored Bleckley 16-10 in the second quarter and went ahead 28-23, led by Rusty Selph who scored eight points in the quarter. Leonard Floyd and Tamius Lemon each scored nine points in the third quarter to lead Dodge to a 54-29 lead. The Indians extended their lead to 75-49 in the final quarter to take the win. Austin Smith led in the quarter with 10 points.
Final scoring for the Indians against Bleckley County was: Tamius Lemon, 12 points; Leonard Floyd, 11 points; Eric Bruemmer, 10 points; Austin Smith, 10 points; Rusty Selph eight points; Greg Butler, five points; Cyprin Burse, four points; Herschel Anderson, four points.
Dodge opened up with 9-7 lead over Swainsboro in the first quarter on Saturday. Leonard Floyd led with five points in the quarter. The Indians extended their lead to 23-15 by outscoring the Tigers 14-8 in the second quarter. Floyd again led the scoring with four points. Cyprin Burse scored eight straight points including two three pointers to end the third quarter and give Dodge to a 35-23 lead after three quarters. The Indians held to their lead in the fourth quarter and defeated Swainsboro 44-31. Burse led with four points in the final quarter.
Final scoring for the Indians against Swainsboro was: Cyprin Burse, 12 points; Leonard Floyd 11 points; Greg Butler, eight points; Eric Bruemmer, five points; Rusty Selph, two points; Justice Burch, two points; Herschel Anderson, two points; Tamius Lemon, two points.
The Indians have games scheduled with Jones County at home on Friday, December 18 at 7:00 p.m. and in Screven County on Saturday, December 19 against Appling County at 4:00 p.m.
