The Grappling Indians recently traveled to Hazlehurst to compete in the Yellow Jacket Duals Wrestling Tournament. Coming up just shy of winning a team trophy, the Indians walked away with a fifth place finish out of 12 teams.
During one dual match up the Indians recorded a pin at every weight class, dominating their opponents and setting another team record. Throughout the day, several wrestlers turned in outstanding performances facing very stiff competition.

Freshman Dylan Rowland, 103 pounds, earned the respect of his coaches, teammates, and fans with an aggressive and determined wrestling style in only his first year on the team. Rowland won two bouts by pin setting the stage for his fellow teammates.
Wrestling at 119 pounds, freshman Will Morgan, recorded two pins and came up short in the final match against Irwin County. Battling for six minutes, Morgan’s match was perhaps the most exciting of the day. Following a remarkable high scoring match, Morgan fell by a score of 26-13.
At 130 pounds, freshman Kenzie Graham wrestled with a physical and mental toughness that is the hallmark of the team.
Taking on more experienced wrestlers in all five bouts, Graham refused to let up recording four pins and one major decision going undefeated for the day.
At 140 pounds, co-captain Rhett Honeycutt turned in several impressive performances.
During the most physically aggressive match of the day, Honeycutt suffered a dislocated shoulder, a large bump on his head, and a bloody lip. Refusing to quit, and after being tended to by the on-site paramedic, Honeycutt chose to step back on the mat and finish the match.
Also scoring wins for the Indians were TJ Spires, 152 pounds; John Lee, 160 pounds; Josh Coleman, 171 pounds; Co-Captain Shane McCranie, 189 pounds; Greg Pound, 215 pounds; and Cody Parkenson, 285 pounds.
