Lion’s Club of Eastman is proud to announce George Paul C. Beebe as this year’s Christmas Parade grand marshal. The Eastman Lions Club Christmas Parade will be held on at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2009.
Beebe was born in Utica, New York on April 30, 1948. He was raised in several small towns and major cities in New York State, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Florida. His father was a road and highway engineer, which was why he and his family traveled so much and were able to see and do so much in different areas of the east coast.
Beebe graduated from Dunedin High School, in Dunedin, Florida, in 1967. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and attended basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. He served a year and a half at Hancock Field, Syracuse, New York. Beebe was stationed for 13 months in Southeast Asia in Thailand and Vietnam. He finished his military time at Warner Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins. While there, he met his wife, Rowona Cooper from Eastman. She had moved to Macon to attend school. While working in Macon for Dr. Clyde Marlow, she met Beebe through a mutual friend and they soon married. After their son Sean was born, they decided to move back to Eastman to raise their son in a small and friendly community. He and his best friend, Allen Rouse, started working together at City T.V. in Eastman. Beebe later entered the Georgia National Guard unit here in Eastman and served three years for the Army.
In August 1979, Beebe and his wife were blessed with their second child, Erin Leah. This year, on July 27, 2009, they were blessed again when Erin had their first grandchild, Liveon Lilith. Beebe has stated now he has come full circle with his new granddaughter.
He has been a volunteer and has served Dodge County in several areas. He coached boys’ baseball and girls’ softball at the recreation complex. He later went on to officiating in umpire position for several years. He served on the first board of directors of Habitat for Humanity and is a past president. He joined the Dodge County Sportsman’s Club and served as a board member for a couple of terms and attended several fishing rodeos.
Beebe has mentored at Lolly’s Pre-K program for the past 13 years. In 1998 he restarted a volunteer program for men at the Dodge County Hospital called the “Red Shirts”. The men are associated with the Pink Lady hospital auxiliary. While there, he has served as president-elect and president. He is currently serving again as president-elect. Beebe is a charter member, starting in 1989, for the JROTC Booster Club, and is still serving in the president/treasurer position. He has served as past adjutant, post commander, and is presently senior commander for the American Legion Post 126. He has been an active member for the past 28 years.
On March 23, 2006 at the 27th annual meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, Beebe received recognition with the Community Service Award for all of his dedicated volunteer time for Dodge County. He has worked with White and Lavender Pest Control for over 20 years and during that time he has received several awards. Recently, Paul received recognition for an idea he presented to State Representative Jimmy Pruett. He, along with several others, helped get passed House Resolution 900, and was signed on April 1, 2009, “International Children’s Month” for the month of August. Beebe attends St. Mark Catholic Church where he served as an on-going chairman for the fund raising committee until the new church was built on the Eastman/Hawkinsville highway. He now serves as a Eucharistic Minter and in the past as a reader. He also served on the first parish council.
Beebe has stated several times, “It is everyone’s responsibility to volunteer for a youth activity, elderly care, or a community function. If we could all give at least one hour a week and be part of a special group as a volunteer, then you can see for yourself all that can be done with these hours.”
