The Dodge County High School Indian basketball team opened their 2009-10 season with a split of games with Jones County and Hawkinsville. The Indians lost to Jones County 69-72 in overtime and defeated the Red Devils of Hawkinsville, 66-26 in their home opener.
The Indians led 10-9 after one quarter against the Greyhounds on Tuesday, December 1 in Gray. Eric Bruemmer and Jordan Jones led the scoring for the Indians in the first with a three pointer each. At the end of the second quarter Dodge trailed Jones 24-25 as the Greyhounds hit a shot at the buzzer to take lead into the half. Bruemmer and Cyprin Burse each scored four points in the second to lead the Indian scoring.
Burse scored eight straight points for Dodge to begin the third quarter as Dodge lead 49-46 after three quarters. Burse led Dodge with 13 points in the quarter. A basket by Bruemmer and a free throw by Tamius Lemon put Dodge up 62-59 with 3.6 second left in the game but the Greyhounds hit a three point basket at the buzzer to tie the game at 62-62 and send it to overtime.
In the overtime period, Dodge was outscored 10-6 as the Greyhounds took the win 72-69. Lemon had three points for the Indians led Dodge in the overtime period.
Final scoring for the Indians against Jones County was: Cyprin Burse, 21 points; Eric Bruemmer, 17 points; Tamius Lemon, 12 points; Greg Butler, six points; Leonard Floyd, six points; Rusty Selph, four points; Jordan Jones, three points.
Dodge led 10-8 over the Hawkinsville Red Devils after one quarter on Friday, December 4 in Eastman. Eric Bruemmer had a three pointer to the lead the Dodge scoring. The Indians outscored Hawkinsville, 18-4 in the second quarter behind eight points from Herschel Anderson and seven points from Greg Butler. The Indians led 28-12 at the half.
The Indians added to their lead in the third quarter by outscoring the Devils 28-6 and led 56-18 after three quarters. Rusty Selph led the scoring in the third quarter with five points including a three pointer and six other Indians scored in the quarter. Austin Smith and Justice Burch each had four points in the fourth quarter as they Indians outscored the Devils 10-8 in the quarter. Dodge won the non-region game 66-26.
Final scoring for Dodge against Hawkinsville was: Tamius Lemon, 11 points; Herschel Anderson, eight points; Justice Burch, eight points; Greg Butler, eight points; Eric Bruemmer, seven points; Leonard Floyd, six points; Jordan Jones, five points; Rusty Selph, five points; Austin Smith, five points; Gerald Wilcox, two points; Cyprin Burse, one point.
The Indians have games scheduled on Tuesday, December 8 at Toombs County and host Bleckley County on Friday, December 11 and host Swainsboro on Saturday, December 12.
All Tuesday games begin at 6:00 p.m. with Friday games beginning at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday games at 4:00 p.m.
