Amy Rogers Jones (38) pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct in Dodge Superior Court on Thursday, November 19, in the death of a four month old infant girl she was baby-sitting.
On Friday, Superior Court Judge Sara Wall sentenced Jones to two years in prison and three years on probation after hearing testimony from medical examiners and family members.
On Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at approximately 12:17 p.m., the Dodge-Wilcox 911 Center received a call from Amy Rogers Jones, the baby sitter, stating that a four month old child was having difficulty breathing. At approximately 12:19 p.m. an ambulance was dispatched to Jones’ residence located at 44 Lower River Road in Dodge County. When medical personnel arrived, the baby was in full cardiopulmonary arrest.
At approximately 12:31 p.m., the child arrived via ambulance at Dodge County Hospital. At approximately 4:20 p.m., the child was transported to the Medical Center of Central Georgia.
On Thursday, January 3, 2008 at approximately 4:20 p.m., the child was pronounced dead. An autopsy was performed on Friday, January 4, 2008 at Georgia Bureau of Investigation headquarters in Atlanta. The autopsy was completed and the cause of death was ruled a homicide.
The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Jones on Friday, January 4, 2008 for one count of felony murder and one count of cruelty to children in the first degree. Jones is the mother of twins and at that time was seven months pregnant.
The infant, Jaci Rogers, was the daughter of Charlie and Tanya Gaines Rogers of 5111 Old Railroad Bed Road in Chester.
Jones was not related to the infant, but was a friend of the parents.
Jones will report to begin her sentence on January 4, 2010, in order for her to be able to spend the holidays with her children.
The woman pleaded guilty to manslaughter. She clearly did something that caused the child to die. The reckless actions this woman performed resulting in a child's death goes to show that she should not be around her own children.
You claim to know this woman and her situation, and you're sticking up for her, so I can only assume you are friends with this woman. Being friends with someone that pleaded guilty to manslaughter shows what kind of dysfunctional character you have.
