On Monday night around 11:15 p.m. Dodge County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call of man threatening another man with a gun and holding the caller against his will at a residence on Joiner Creek Road in southern Dodge County.
Deputies arrived at the residence to find that the alleged offender, Jimmy Dean Barnett (age 46), was gone.
Deputies went to Barnett’s nearby residence on New Bethel Church Road to follow up on the complaint. Barnett began shooting a gun into the air from his front door as deputies pulled into his yard. The armed Barnett refused to exit the residence for the deputies and a stand off ensued.
Deputies from the Telfair County Sheriff’s Office and a Helena Police officer responded to assist the Dodge County deputies. Dodge County deputies entered Barnett’s residence shortly after midnight. Barnett was found to be hiding up under his home with several loaded firearms in his possession. Barnett was taken into custody by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.
Barnett is facing several charges including terroristic threats and acts along with false imprisonment, felony obstruction and disorderly conduct.
