While it is still chilly and the birds haven’t started chirping yet, Dodge County High School Soccer has finally arrived.
On February 14, both the Lady Indians and the Indians showed their love of the game by bringing home amazing wins while playing against Fitzgerald Hurricanes.
The evening started with the Lady Indians taking Fitzgerald by surprise in the first half with a 4-0 lead.
Shelby Haviland scored from a distance while Kendall Adcock scored two goals from inside the penalty box. The fourth and final goal of the night was by rookie, Madison Mullis, getting her first goal of her high school career.
In the second half, the Hurricanes worked hard to get back in the game. They took four times as many shots as the Lady Indians. Thankfully, Dodge County has a secret weapon that goes by the name of Brooke Best. Best is the Lady Indians goal keeper who achieved another outstanding game with over 20 saves.
Standout plays in the game were made by Hannah Jones, Becky Villanueava and Morgan Pruett.
The Indians got off to a slower start with the score at half time being 0-2 in favor of the Hurricanes.
Fortunately for the Indians, our boys have been doing conditioning and training hard to build endurance that it takes to get through the game and reign successfully.
Our first goal of the night was scored by Walt Turner when the Hurricanes got a penalty in the box.
The next goal was a hard fought goal by Hunter Augins that tied the game with 13 seconds left to play. Augins was assisted by Jordan Cook.
The Indians fought and maintained the tie during two overtimes that resulted in the game going into penalty kicks. Each side chose five players to go one on one against the goal keeper from the opposing team. Our five men chosen were Turner, Augins, Cook, Jacob Wilkerson (aka Taco) and Seth Palmer.
Turner went first with a catch by the opposing goalie but putting the goalie on edge with his powerful leg. Augins, Cook, Wilkerson and
Palmer all made their shots. Fortunately, our goal keeper, Rusty Pruett, blocked two of the five shots by Fitzgerald, resulting in a 6-5 win for the Indians.
These boys had excellent backup and help by their teammates. Standout plays in the game were made by Cole Honeycutt, Colby Jones, Mitch Tanner and Joseph Rye.
Thanks to an awesome defense with players like John Lee and Kerry Gordon, we were able to come home with an adrenalin-rushing win.
