Caitlin Greer has been one of Dodge County High School’s shining stars; however, it wasn’t until recently that she was named the school’s official STAR student.
The Page Foundation’s Student Teacher Recognition Achievement (STAR) program celebrates the excellence achieved by Georgia’s seniors and the most influential of their teachers.
To receive the honor of STAR student, Greer had to have the highest SAT score in one sitting prior to November 2011. Though Greer’s 1750 put her at the top of her class, she has since achieved a new personal high score of 1810. Greer also had to rank in the top ten percent of her senior class to receive the award.
“God has blessed me with so much in my life,” Greer says of her accomplishment. “I am humbled to receive such a prestigious award knowing how many incredibly talented students there are in my graduating class.”
Greer’s community-oriented mindset has led her to participate in a myriad of clubs over the course of her career at DHCS. She is a member of BETA Club, FCA, Anchor Club, GCSA, and Principal’s Advisory. Additionally, she has embraced several leadership opportunities. She is currently Student Council President, FFA Treasurer, and Vacation Bible School Leader; in the past she has acted as Student Council Vice President and Sophomore Class Parliamentarian.
After four years on DCHS’s Lady Indians softball team, Greer has been honored as the team’s co-captain. She also plays on the Middle Georgia Shockers Travel Softball team. She has signed a full athletic scholarship with Middle Georgia College Warriors.
In addition to her athletic prowess, Greer is also an accomplished writer. Her writing has secured her the Camsports Essay Scholarship. She has participated in the RESA Writing Competition in 2011 and 2012. She was also the first runner-up in EC Magazine’s fiction contest.
Greer has been awarded the University of Georgia Certificate of Merit. She was recognized as an Outstanding Junior, a Senior Superlative, a Senior Favorite (teacher’s pet), and October 2011 Student of the Month.
As a junior, she participated in DCHS’s 2010-2011 graduation as an usher. She has been a Gold Card recipient for four years, and she has been recognized on the Middle Georgia College Merit list and as a Rotary Scholar candidate. This year, she is taking Middle Georgia College’s Accel courses as well as honors classes.
Greer has chosen Donna Purvis as her STAR teacher.
“Mrs. Purvis is inspirational to me in so many ways. She has helped me to improve my writing skills while exploring my creativity to realms I have never known,” Greer says. “Out of the classroom, Mrs. Purvis inspires me to ‘be the change’ in everything I do. She is extremely deserving of the title of STAR Teacher and I am honored to call her mine.”
“It is very humbling, and I just feel so very honored that she chose me,” Purvis says of her nomination as Greer’s STAR teacher. “Caitlin is truly outstanding. She’s a scholar, an athlete, and a role model in her community.”
