Summer time is not only the growing season for Dodge County farmers, but also the growing season for local drug dealers.
The interdiction efforts of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Narcotics Unit last week resulted in the interruption of a marijuana harvesting operation. Sheriff’s investigators seized and destroyed fourteen (14) well tended marijuana plants which were over eleven (11) feet tall. The operation was located in the southwest part of the county in the vicinity of Highway 230.
Sheriff Jeff Hinson stated, “There was no doubt this marijuana was bound for the streets of Dodge County, but has now been stopped because of the drug interdiction efforts of the Sheriff’s Office.” The investigation of the marijuana operation is ongoing and arrests are pending.
The Narcotics Unit also served arrest warrants on Andrew McRae (age 42), of Eastman, for two (2) counts of the sale of cocaine. Deputies arrested Erik Holly (age 32,) of Eastman, on July 20, 2009 and charged Holly with possession of marijuana and driving on a suspended driver’s license as the result of a traffic stop. Drunk drivers are also having a difficult time in Dodge County as deputies have made six (6) additional arrests for driving under the influence (DUI) in the last week.
Sheriff’s investigators recently arrested two (2) individuals in a theft ring operation in which items were stolen and pawned. Daniel D. Gay (age 30), of Eastman, was arrested and charged with seven (7) counts of theft by taking and three (3) counts of theft by deception. Thomas Ray Russell (age 55), of Dublin, was also arrested and charged with one (1) count of theft by deception. The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.
The driver of the tractor trailer that was killed in the accident on the Rhine Highway, which was reported last week’s edition of The Dodge County News, has been identified as Sam Patrick Demal Reed (age 27), of Macon. The driver was incorrectly reported, in preliminary reports, as being employed by Everett Dykes Grassing Company of Cochran. Reed was in no way associated with the Everett Dykes Grassing Company. The Sheriff’s Office apologizes for the confusion and sends their condolences to the Reed family.
