Rhine council agrees to allow former employee to pay $7,000 restitution

The Rhine City Council agreed to accept an agreement prepared by city attorney Joey Marchant for former employee June Sheffield to pay restitution of $300.00 per month with a final payment of $100.00 over a period of 23 months. Marchant informed council that Sheffield agreed to the restitution and agreed to signing the agreement with the first payment due on January 15, 2012.

Discussion was held and councilman Wayne Hilliard made a motion to have the restitution payments made directly to the trust account of attorney Marchant. Councilman Roy Williams seconded the motion with no objections from council.

Sheffield will pay a total amount of $7,000.00 for water bill payments that were applied to water bills but were not deposited into the water bank account over a period of time from January 2011 to June 2011.

In other business, discussion was held regarding moving the election polls from city hall to the community center. Attorney Marchant asked the council to table the matter until he could research the necessary documentation needed in order for this to occur.

The cooler at the old Rhine Elementary School will be advertised for bids to be sold. Hilliard made the motion to sell the cooler, seconded by Williams.

Councilperson Kay Spires provided financial updates to council regarding all bank accounts. Williams made a motion to accept all financial reports. Councilperson Dena Barrows seconded the motion.

So JUNE SHEFFIELD was the thief who didn't get charge with a felony. Now we know who this person is, I knew it would be a matter of time before the name was made public.

An 18 year old caught with $50 worth of marijuana would be sentenced to 1-10 years and charged with a felony.

A city employee, entrusted by the community to safeguard funds paid by the citizens can steal $7000 and have the theft turned into a convenient, interest free loan?

Something seems out of balance here.

Not to mention she's being let off the hook for the other $593.78 she stole. Isn't anything over $500 suppose to be classified as a felony? Why then, is she not even required to pay back every red cent she stole?

Uhhh,that lady must have connections,because anywhere else she would be put in jail,I think the Voters need to remember this election time or have a recall election for the clowns who are allowing this to happen,makes me wonder if this lady does not have some tales she could tell on them..only an idiot who holds a position of power would vote for this,it needs to be turned over to a special prosecutor,and i am willing to bet if some one sends this article the Georgia attorney generals office,it wont be a simple vote for restitution..more than likely there is other dirty stuff going on that's being covered up she could tell about,i would bet my last dollar on it.

The Voters in Rhine have remembered. None of the incumbents were relected in November. There will be a new majority on the Rhine City Council come January 1, 2012.

Hopefully with a pratically brand new Rhine City Council taking office on January 1rst, they we will revisit this issue. The new Council should direct the Rhine Police Chief, Rhine Mayor, and Rhine Attorney to turn this matter over to the GBI and/or the District Attorney's Office.

Although I have no interest in Rhine, I do hope your newly-elected people do indeed "revisit" this issue. At the very least an investigation should have been done....should BE done. It's absurd. Payment plan? That's ridiculous!

Makes me want to turn into a thief! But there again I cant do the "favors" she can do. How many of the other elected people in Rhine are getting away with their fingers in the till??
