Nice job, Pete
Pete Wilson, California’s U.S. Senator and two-term governor was one of the first U.S. politicians, maybe the first, to fight illegal immigration. Liberals today claim he hurt his career and the Republican Party by doing so, a big lie. He won big after cracking down on illegal immigration. The reason California Republicans after Wilson did not run well is they stupidly listened to liberals and were cowed into silence on the illegal onslaught. Pete Wilson stood up to the problem and profited handsomely at the ballot box.
Check out VDare.com for the true story of Pete Wilson’s career. There is a lesson for aspiring Republicans. VDare.com is a site I check daily.
I had forgotten this. In the 1982 Republican Primary for the U.S. Senate in California the candidates were Rep. Paul “Pete” McCloskey (ultra- liberal), Maureen Reagan (Ronnie and Nancy’s daughter, sort of a “moderate-liberal” back then, she later moved right), Congressman Barry Goldwater, Jr. and San Diego Mayor Pete Wilson. Pete Wilson won the primary and the U.S. Senate seat over Democrat Jerry Brown.
California polls in 1982 claimed Jerry Brown was ahead of Pete Wilson in the Senate race, even on election eve. Pete proved the pollsters wrong. I love seeing all-knowing pollsters wrong.
Ronald Reagan and Pete Wilson did a number on California’s Brown family, the biggest Democrat names in the state. Reagan knocked off Pat Brown’s reelection attempt for governor in 1966 (RR’s first try for office), a blowout, winning by more than one million votes. Pete Wilson defeated Pat Brown’s son Jerry Brown for the U.S. Senate then beat Diane Feinstein for governor in 1990 and was reelected over Kathleen Brown, Pat’s daughter, Jerry’s sister, in 1994. Polls in 1994 showed Kathleen Brown leading Wilson until he started stressing the illegal immigration problem, showing television commercials with grainy footage of illegals sneaking across the border in droves late at night, which propelled him to victory. The liberal press assailed him as a bigot, anti-immigrant, etc. at the time, trying to dissuade him and he wisely ignored their smears while sailing to victory.
I like this from Wikipedia.org, about Senator Pete Wilson:
“In 1985, Wilson cast a key vote in favor of President Reagan’s budget. Just 32 hours after having surgery to remove his ruptured appendix, Wilson arrived by ambulance at the Capitol Building shortly after midnight and was wheeled onto the Senate floor wearing blue pajamas covered by a brown velour robe. Not only was Wilson able to cast his vote in a firm voice, he held a brief press conference during the late-night session in which he jokingly asked reporters, ‘What are you all doing up this late?’”
Pete Wilson supported term limits, which kept him from running for a third term as governor in 1998. In his last election he took over 55 percent of the vote in 1994, clearly the most successful California Republican politician since Ronald Reagan. Imagine a Republican winning anything statewide in California these days. Wilson won big every time he ran. He left the state with a $16,000,000,000 ($16 billion) surplus. Nice job, Pete.
The Pentagon says it cannot account for over 95 percent of $9.1 billion ($9,100,000,000, of $9 billion, $100 million) in Iraq construction money. Think of the lives we could save plus a fortune in money by getting out of that hellhole. Of course, the wasted lives are far more important than the spending.
At 95 percent of $9.1 billion it comes to $23,684,932 per day for a year, or just under $1 million per hour. Do you think our “quick in and out” big Iraq adventure is worth it? Don’t forget - a billion is still big. It’s 1,000 x 1,000,000.
With all the vexing problems we have in the USA, the public sleeps on, with a 15 to 20 percent primary turnout considered good and runoffs with around 10 percent participation or a little less regarded as normal.
“He votes no on everything, including adjournment” was what admirers said about Congressman Mel Hancock (R-Missouri). He died at 83 on November 6. Mel Hancock term limited himself to four six-year terms and retired from Congress in 1996.
A constant critic of government spending, the good-natured Hancock didn’t mind criticizing fellow Republicans for “selling us out.” He was considered to be one of the earliest forerunners of the Tea Party movement.
America’s clueless elites couldn’t figure out who killed Chandra Levy. Savvy writer Sam Francis (shotsfired.us) suggested in 2002 that they take a good look at El Salvadoran illegal immigrant Ingmar Guandique, then awaiting trial for attempted rape in another case, the attack occurring in the same park. Sure enough, Sam was right. The illegal was convicted of Miss Levy’s murder in February 2011 and given a 60 year prison sentence. Now age 29, he will be 89 when he gets out.
Guess who holds these Baltimore Ravens team records: longest pass completion (92 yards) and most consecutive pass attempts without an interception (175). Answer: Eric Zeier.
Zeier was one of the first college players to enroll in school early, going to the University of Georgia in January 1991, ahead of his high school class graduation and in time for Spring Practice. Remember when they were correctly referred to as “players” instead of “student athletes” as announcers are now required to do in televised games?
Eric was All-Academic SEC in 1992 and 1993. He held the SEC lifetime passing record of 11,154 yards, since broken by Peyton Manning and David Greene. He now does a fine job as radio color commentator on Georgia football games. Great work Z !

Congressman Ron Paul’s toll-free message number is 1-888-322-1414. His Congressional office number is 1-800-RON PAUL. Clever how that works out, isn’t it? Remember - Dr. Paul is America’s low overhead politician. He does not participate in the lucrative Congressional retirement system.
