Eastman council says no to spot zoning of property

Although it has never been officially made an ordinance, many years ago, the Eastman council members agreed not to do any spot zoning inside the city limits.

Hutcheson tried to get the council to understand that putting his agency in that spot would only enhance the neighborhood, but the council stood firm.

Initially, the council voted four to one not to allow the spot zoning with Buddy Pittman voting for it. Later, Pittman stated that he misunderstood the motion made by councilperson Idele Walker and he changed his vote to be against the rezoning of the property.

A petition was also entered into the minutes of the meeting with approximately 50 names that opposed the rezoning request.
Hutcheson can reapply for the rezoning at a later date if he wants to do so.
