Grappling Indians begin fifth wrestling season

The Grappling Indians recently kicked off their fifth high school wrestling season competing at the Cougar Duals in Crisp County. Battling against nine other squads from across Georgia, the Indians displayed their trademark aggressiveness, physical toughness, and sportsmanship in front of a packed field house.

In the first dual match versus Houston County, the Honeycutt brothers (Cole and Tad), continued with their older brother Rhett’s legacy on the mat with two impressive, fast-paced, matches leading to pins. Also winning their openers were co-captain T.J. Spires and Chandler Cannon.

Recording his first varsity win was freshman Tyler Gruben. Against Jones

County, freshman Jacob Danforth recorded his first varsity-wrestling win building on his impressive youth and middle school career.

Also recording pins against Jones County were Cole Honeycutt, T.J. Spires, Jaquan Mann, Kelby Amerson, Randy Atkinson, and Tyler Gruben.

The Grappling Indians also wrestled against Lee County and Telfair County both of which are historically tough teams.

Two Grappling Indians went undefeated on the day; Jacob Danforth, 120 lbs; and Chandler Cannon, 170 lbs.

After a long, exciting tournament, the Grappling Indians faired extremely well in their season debut.
