Water bill payments in the form of cash are missing for from the City of Rhine’s bank accounts.
In a city council meeting on Thursday, November 3, Rhine’s city attorney Joey Marchant addressed Mayor Carter Clements and the city council members regarding missing water bill deposits. From January 2010 to June 2010, the total cash deposited was approximately $7,593.78. From January 2011 to June 2011, the total cash deposited was approximately $251.00.
Discussion was held regarding the missing funds and the possible involvement of a former employee. Council discussed having the former employee pay restitution to the City of Rhine in the amount of $7,000.00.
Marchant informed the mayor and council that an agreement has been prepared for the former employee to sign that would require restitution of $300.00 per month with a final payment of $100.00 over a period of 23 months. Marchant informed the group the agreement would keep the city from seeking legal action against the former employee.
Council member Wayne Hilliard suggested to the group that the former employee borrow the money and pay the city back in a lump sum.
Council member Roy Williams made a motion to have Marchant contact the former employee to inquire about restitution payment in full and if that option is not available, then to accept the proposed agreement of repayment over 23 months. Council member Kay Spires seconded the motion. The motion carried.
In other business, citizen Sybil Williamson reported to council the schedule for the Christmas parade to be held on Saturday, December 3 at 3:00 p.m. City clerk Casey Lann presented financial reports for the city and police chief Kip Cravey presented the police report.
Thank God I don't steal but the statement made was to get my point across. Previously I commented on the big time politicians on the federal level stealing and now I see corruption with the SMALL TOWN politicians. There is corruption all over the place these days from politician while they pass it down for others to pay who had no hand in their mess. If this person(whoever it is,time will tell)doesnot pay back this money someone is going to have to pay it back and who do you think that might be?
SHERIFF,SHERIFF someone needs to be taken to the Dodge County Jail from Rhines. Fair is fair and these small towns needs to stop their mess. It is not what you know it is who you know politics needs to be cleaned up. This is America and we all should be treated fairly and dealt with accordingly.
Now I see what everyone has been saying about small town corruption.
Maybe you and & I can go down to Rhine and "borrow" some funds from the city; based on how this person was treated, we should be okay if we just 'agree' to pay it back.
Favoritism, pure and simple.
Rhine was just awarded $470,000.00 block grant so maybe we can borrow a big chuck of that. Now I wonder who will be borrowing some of this block grant money since they appear to be in the loaning business.
I don't live in the city of Rhine but if I did I would be to every meeting telling them that have played foul ball in the game and it appears to be at the citizens of Rhine expense.
The citizens of Rhine should be standing up and screaming. It's THEIR money this person stole.
Again, it is disgusting, but also, dis-heartening, to see grown people gloss this over. We struggle to teach our children right from wrong; then they see an example like this. Obviously, the lesson kids will learn from this example is~ "It doesn't matter if you do wrong; what matters is WHO you know that will cover it up for you."
Hey city of Rhine can I borrow about a grand? Christmas is comin and its gettin real tight on the wallet...
