Dodge County sheriff’s deputies and emergency personnel were called to a residence on the Soperton Highway last Wednesday afternoon, November 2, shortly after 1:30 p.m. in reference to a shooting. The caller stated that a female had been shot in the arm at that location.
Deputies entered the residence and attempted to locate the shooting victim and any shooters. No one was found inside the residence by the sheriff’s deputies clearing the house. However, deputies discovered an alleged bag of marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the first bedroom they entered which was lying on top of the bed and dresser.
While on the scene, personnel were notified that a gunshot victim had shown up at the emergency room at Dodge County Hospital by private vehicle. Ashley Deloach (age 26), of Eastman, was treated and later released from the hospital for a wound to the arm.
Sheriff’s investigators state that the people at the residence were standing around a burning fire in an outdoor fire pit. Apparently there was some old ammunition in the materials being burned in the fire. One of the bullets apparently exploded in the fire and a piece of shrapnel struck Deloach in the arm.
Deloach, the occupant of the residence, was arrested by deputies upon her release from the emergency room and booked into the Dodge County jail. Deloach has been charged with possession of marijuana and was later released on a $1,700.00 bond.
Most people do not know the job dischrption between the Sherrifs department, local, and state. They work together, but on different levels. GOOD JOB!
It is apparent that you need to reevaluate who you let into your house though. I'd like to think I might be aware if there were drugs on my bed and dresser.
Anyone who has been charged with a crime should not air it out in the public until after the courts have made their decision of the charge. I wish you the best all are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
