Born in a bloody revolution supported only by about a third of the population, America grew to provide more opportunity to more people, give more of itself in wealth and blood than any other nation and all of it done without conquering other lands solely for the purpose of world domination.
The level of affluence achieved by Americans has no equal anywhere. That affluence has created some serious wrong headed thinking by people at all levels of our society. Affluence is not a bad thing, indeed it is a wonderful thing. However, the source of that affluence is being destroyed.
There are varying attitudes about American affluence. Some of those who have earned the right to enjoy their affluence wrongly assume that how things are is how things will always be. Affluence is accepted as their right, which it is for those who have truly earned it, but affluence is despised by the less affluent and unwilling to pay the price of earning success for themselves.
America’s failure can rightfully be attributed to the politician. So long as there was a respect for law and the focus was on seeing that all persons were treated equally before the law, America prospered. Key to this prosperity was an acknowledgement and general acceptance of the one true God. By His hand, the world was created. It follows then that America, by divine intervention, was created.
The documents, i.e., the rules of conduct for the great experiment in human freedom, were written by men who had a profound appreciation for God and all that is possible for those who acknowledge Him. Too many politicians, acolytes in the church of government, despise God, God’s intent and the writings which form the legal foundation of America.
Out of affluence, two groups were born - those who achieved it and those who lusted after the affluence of the achievers. Godless politicians found an opening and entered the struggle of life under the guise of arbiters of how things should be. Politicians convinced people at all levels of affluence that with them, all things are possible. As it happened, the politician, not God, came to be depended on for providing the necessities of life. The Founding Fathers believed in God. Modern politicians believe they are god.
God’s place in the great scheme of things was replaced with a belief that government was ordained to do those things God had reserved to Himself. The groups of haves and have-nots were pitted against each other. The politician decides who gets what and in what measure. Political arrogance is destroying America. When every person has what every other person has, America will be over. When there is no incentive to work, to save, to be responsible for oneself, misery will abound. History is crammed with examples. Government cannot replace God. Government has no vision, no compassion, no demand for personal responsibility. Government is its own god.
Believers in Christ are called Christians, believers in government should well be called govermistians. Free people will never become govermistians. Those willing to forego their freedom in exchange for the affluence of free people will always be govermistians. They will forever be dependents. They will not be dependent on God and their own abilities. They will be dependent on other men.
God allows each of us to choose our eternity. There is no middle ground. America offers us the opportunity to choose between affluence and dependence. We can follow the politician with his plan for servitude or we can choose God, America, and the opportunity both offer. There is no middle ground. The future of America depends on which choice we make.

The founding fathers, for the most part, did indeed believe in God. They also believed in separating that belief from their responsibilities to the people, in order to avoid a church state.
The way I see it, what you are calling for here is nothing less than a Christian version of the Taliban here in America; legislating morality upon people that do not share your views with a desire to enforce those unfounded beliefs upon anyone and everyone.
It's not that your opinion of the politicians is wrong, it isn't for the most part...but I think your reasoning is flawed. Getting the politicians in love with god won't help America, just the Christian agenda.

For example, there is no authority in the Constitution providing for the redistribution of wealth among the citizens because the first step in the redistribution process is the theft, by government, of the wealth of one in order to give to someone else.
God doesn't authorize theft. Neither does the Constitution. Politicians rob all of us and are applauded for it.
