The Dodge County Middle School Lady Warriors stayed undefeated in regular season play with wins over Toombs County and Dublin this past week. On Saturday, Dodge hosted Diamond Day as they split a pair of games with Vidalia and West Laurens. Dodge will host a first round game, probably Dublin, in post-season play. The game will be played Tuesday at 4:40 p.m. at the Eastman-Dodge Recreation Department.
Dodge opened their play last Tuesday as they hosted Toombs County. The Lady Warriors opened up the scoring in the second. With two outs, Faith Manning and Haley Holloway drew walks and a single by Leah Creech loaded the basis. Margret Simmons singled to center scoring Manning and Creech for a 2-0 Dodge lead.
The Lady Warriors lead was 2-1 going to the bottom of the fourth. Haley Holloway and Allie Parkerson singled and a walk to Margret Simmons loaded the bases with a single out. Lizzie Massingill and Kaylee Peterson delivered hits and the Dodge lead reached 5-1.
Dodge put the game away in the sixth. With one out, a walk to Allie Parkerson followed by hits from Massingill and Gooch loaded the bases. An RBI from Lindsey Crummey pushed the Dodge lead 6-1. One out later, Creech got a single that scored Gooch and Crummey that ended the game and a 9-1 Dodge win. Holloway was the winning pitcher as she allowed but three hits, while striking out five with no walks.
Due to a Thursday rainout, Dodge hosted Dublin on Saturday. The Lady Warriors would be the visiting team due to the game schedule to be played in Dublin. Dodge got things going in the top of the first. Leah Creech got a double to lead off the game and scored on a wild pitch for a 1-0 Dodge lead. Allie Parkerson would single home Lindsey Crummey who doubled for a 2-0 Dodge lead. Parkerson would score on a passed ball for a 3-0 Dodge lead.
Dodge kept the bats going in the top of the second. Briana Perdue singled in Kiley Dix for a 4-0 Lady Warrior lead. Leah Creech had a triple that scored Perdue and Faith Manning for a 6-0 Dodge lead. Allie Parkerson would drive in Margret Simmons who tripled to cap off a 5 run second inning for a 8-0 Dodge lead. The Lady Irish had no answers for Lady Warrior pitcher Briana Perdue as she struck-out 5 in two innings of work.
The Dodge bats continued to hit as they scored six more runs in the third and five more in the fourth for an easy 19-2 win. Leah Creech had three hits for Dodge including a pair of triples. Lindsey Crummey and Margret Simmons had two hits each for Dodge. Macy Rogers, Haley Holloway, Kaylee Peterson, Caitlen Gooch, Briana Perdue, Allie Varnadoe, Faith Manning and Meredith Hutcheson all had hits for the Lady Warriors. Julianna Belflower and Kylie Dix both scored for the Lady Warriors.
Dodge hosted a strong Vidalia team to start Diamond Day. The game was a pitchers battle as Haley Holloway pitched real well for the Lady Warriors. The game was scoreless in the fifth until Vidalia scratches in a run and they added an unearned run in the sixth for a 2-0 lead going into the seventh. Margret Simmons doubled with one out. Allie Parkerson doubled to the left center that scored Simmons for a 2-1 game. Dodge couldn’t score Parkerson and 2-1 was the final.
The Lady Warriors hosted West Laurens in the final game of the day. Dodge sent Julianna Belflower to the mound. Belflower pitched well but she trailed 4-0 after the three innings. Three of the four runs allowed were unearned. The Dodge bats were ice cold as they trailed 7-0 on one hit until the sixth. Faith Manning got Dodge’s second hit, a lead of triple to begin the sixth. With two outs, Margret Simmons was hit by a pitch and Allie Parkerson was walked to load the bases. A walk to Lizzie Massingill scored Manning for a 7-1 game. Kaylee Peterson got a single that scored Simmons and Parkerson for a 7-3 game. Chelsea Brody got a single that scored Massingill for a 7-4 game going into the seventh.
The Lady Warriors came charging back in the seventh. Braina Perdue singled home Leah Creech for a 7-5 game. Perdue would score a hit from Parkerson for a 7-6 game. Pinch runner Lindsey Crummey would score on a wild pitch to tie the game at 7-7. Lizzie Massingill would hit a sacrifice fly to score Parkerson from third with the winning run for a big come behind 8-7 win.
