The Dodge County Middle School Lady Warriors continued to roll along as they began region play in their 2011 softball season. The Lady Warriors were tested Tuesday in Vidalia as they hung on to an early lead for a 4-3 win. The tests would end there for the Lady Warriors. Dodge would welcome Swainsboro on Thursday for a 23-2 pounding in a 2 1/2-inning game. Dodge would score 15 runs in the first inning. On Saturday, Dodge would travel to Dublin for Diamond Day put on by West Laurens. Dodge would play Bleckley County in their first game. Dodge scored five runs in the first and would coast to a 16-1 win. East Laurens would take a shot at Dodge next, but they had little chance, as Dodge would roll to a 19-0 win.
The Lady Warriors would begin their region season as they played in Vidalia. Dodge would open the scoring in the first. Lindsey Crummey and Margaret Simmons had singles and they scored to give the Lady Warriors a 2-0 lead after their half of the first. Vidalia would answer with a pair of runs of their own to tie the game at 2-2 after the first inning.
Dodge would reclaim the lead in the third. Allie Parkerson and Lizzie Massingill would score runs to give the Lady Warriors a 4-2 lead. Kaylee Peterson and Haley Holloway had doubles in the inning for Dodge.
Vidalia would take a final shot at Dodge in the bottom of the sixth. They would settle for a single run, however, and Dodge would hang in for a 4-3 win. Leah Creech had three hits for Dodge while Crummey and Simmons had two hits each.
Dodge would host Swainsboro in their home region opener on Thursday. Dodge would come to bat in the bottom of the first and put the game away in a hurry. Creech had a lead off triple and would score on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead. Dodge would send 19 batters to the plate in the inning and everyone in the batting order would sore at least one run as Dodge would “settle” for 15 in the first. Massingill had a pair of RBI’s along with Brianna Perdue. Chelsey Brady, Creech, Faith Manning and Allie Parkerson all had RBI’s in the inning.
Dodge would keep the scoring going in the second. The Lady Warriors would score eight more runs in the second. Kylie Dix had a pair of hits and scored two runs in the inning while Holloway had two hits as well with a run scored. The game would end with a 23-2 Dodge win. Allie Parkerson had three hits and three runs scored. Creech, Dix, Simmons, Holloway, Manning, and Brady all had two hits each. Dodge had 19 hits in the game. Fifteen different Lady Warriors scored runs in the game.
Dodge would open up Diamond Day in Dublin on Saturday against Bleckley County. Dodge would start quickly as they had a five run first to go up 5-0. A seven run second and a four run third would put away Bleckley County for a 16-1 win. Once again, it would be a team effort as en different Lady Warriors would score in the blowout win. Creech, Parkerson, Caitlin Gooch, Crummey, and Simmons all scored two runs each. Crummey had two hits for the Lady Warriors. Hailey Pavesich, Macy Rogers, Perdue, Massingill, Brady and Peterson all scored runs for Dodge. Allie Varnadoe and Meredith Hutcheson added hits for Dodge.
The Lady warriors would wrap up their Diamond Day as they would play East Laurens. It would take a little time to get the offense in gear as they only would have a 5-0 lead going into the third. A seven run third and fourth would finish this one early with a 19-0 win. The “team” theme would continue as 14 different players would score in the blowout win. Crummey, Julianna Bellflower, Parkerson, Manning, and Pavesich all scored two runs each. Parkerson and Pavesich had two hits each for Dodge. Rogers, Peterson, Brady, Varnadoe, Simmons, Manning, Hutcheson, Perdue, Massingill, and Gooch all had a hit each for the undefeated Lady Warriors.
Dodge will return to play this Thursday at Bleckley County. Dodge will host Toombs County next Tuesday.
