The Dodge County Middle School (DCMS) Warriors opened their 2012 football campaign on Thursday as they traveled to Lyons for the game in Toombs County.
The game was a total defensive battle as the game was scoreless through regulation play. The Dodge defense would only allow three first downs in the game. Kyle Glover and Maleek Graham were strong to lead the way. Toombs would claim an 8-0 lead during the overtime. Dodge would battle back as quarterback Clint Thompson scored to cut the game to 8-6. The extra point would fail however, and Toombs would take the 8-6 win. Thompson had 83 yards on the ground to lead the Warriors.
The seventh grade Warriors get a quarter of play against Toombs. Dodge would dominate both sides of the ball and roll to a 14-0 win. Tyrese Blash had 125 yards rushing, including a pair of 50-yard touchdown runs. Quarterback Cody Oxford threw for 30 yards with a 20 yarder to Darrel Kemp and a 10 yarder to Nick Cummings. The Dodge defense would allow negative yards in the quarter.
The head coach Tony Taylor said, “that there was some good things, but we have got a lot of work to do to get better”.
The Warriors home opener has been changed from Thursday to Wednesday as they host Dublin for a 4:30 p.m. game.
