If only all congressional committees were so inspired.
The committee charged with putting to paper the reasons the Continental Congress had resolved to declare independence from Britain turned to Thomas Jefferson to do its drafting. If the reasons for that choice weren’t particularly profound -- Jefferson’s talents as a writer were widely recognized, and no one thought the declaration as important as other pressing revolutionary business -- its consequences assuredly were.

Letter to the Editor
Dear editor,
It has been three months since the devastating fire that destroyed my business, Roy’s, on Main Street in downtown Eastman. The buildings that once stood and the ruble that once lay are now gone. The slate has been wiped clean and the retailers and offices downtown are now trying to regain momentum after an event that will forever be a part of Eastman’s history. [Full Story »]

Why Obama became a snoop
Before Barack Obama became president, he reveled in the irresponsibility of his powerlessness. He could denounce Bush administration counterterrorism initiatives from a glorious position of civil-libertarian purity and posit the need to strike a perfect balance “between privacy and security.”

He studied online
No one, students or faculty, seems to remember Barack Obama at Columbia University. You would figure someone would recall seeing him there. I have the answer. He was America’s first distance learning student, as innovative as his media hype has claimed, using long distance learning and the Internet before either had been invented. Another Obama first - he studied online - what a guy!

Dear editor,
As incompetence, deception, duplicity and dishonesty become the hallmarks of the Obama administration and scandals that pop up literally every day now, it is important not to lose sight of the biggest tragedy that has ever enveloped our nation, the cover up in the murders of our ambassador and three other brave Americans directly linked to a terrorist attack and not by some stupid You Tube video as attributed by the commander in chief, the secretary of state and others in the presidents cabinet just for the sake of winning an election. Dear editor,
My family and I needed some “on-the-spot” assistance on May 21, 2013 and quickly learned that Mike Grenade and the Christian Life Center in Eastman (thanks Bonnie and Joy) are the “go to folks” in your community. I applaud their quick response and willingness to help out-of-town visitors. Your small town is represented in a big way by this wonderful group of people. [Full Story »]

Dear editor,
We still have grave concerns about the outlawed confederate flag that still flies on the courthouse square, public property. This matter has been discussed with the Dodge County Board of Commissioners on numerous occasions, but to no avail. The concern we have is that this flag is not our state flag and should therefore not be permitted to fly on public land, land that all tax payers’ help to fund. We don’t have problem with this flag flying on confederate holidays, celebrated in April, but to allow this flag to fly 365 days is an insult; this flag was outlawed by Georgia voters in March of 2004. Dear editor,
In our everyday living there is room for two, positive and negative. It’s amazing how much one can accomplish when they don’t care who gets the credit. Between the two one will balance the other if the two are not abused. [Full Story »]

Please keep this in mind. When Colonel Allen West first ran for Congress in 2008, the Republican National Congressional Committee (NRCC) did not support his candidacy. Probably they were looking for a “thoughtful moderate” instead. See Shark-Tank.net for more on this.

Perry the poacher
What you are now hearing across the land is a collective whine. Blue-state Democrats are upset that Texas Gov. Rick Perry dares come and play in their sandboxes, and worse, threatens to “poach” jobs from their states.

Being Eric Holder
President Barack Obama has been mocked for learning about untoward conduct in his administration from the press. But he’s on the ball compared with his attorney general, who wouldn’t know about his own poor judgment without reading about it in the papers. Let’s hope he has a Google alert set for “Eric Holder.”

Dr. Rand Paul isn’t just a political yakker. Like his father Dr. Ron Paul, Rand backs it up with action. It’s sad that more people didn’t go along with Ron. Maybe they will do so with Rand. How about Paul/Cruz or Cruz/Paul 2016?
