Dear editor,
After observing the past few articles printed about the way our government officials have been conducting affairs in spite of the people who fund them through taxes it is painfully obvious they have no concept of the trust expected of the office, those who elected them and the requirements to function in office. The concept of “right and wrong” is appears to have many meanings, but usually when exercised by a GVT official it takes the meaning of “Right”” interpreted to “what is right for me” and “wrong” is “a situation I cannot take advantage of to favor either my cronies or myself”. Two correctional officers arrested

Two Dodge State Prison correctional officers were arrested Sunday at the prison in Chester. Dodge County sheriff’s deputies were called to the prison to transport the correctional officers to the Dodge County jail. The correctional officers were booked into the Dodge County jail and transferred to another undisclosed jail facility due to the current Dodge County jail not being able to segregate inmates for safety.
Correctional officer Jonathan Bernum Payne, Sr. (age 21), of Cochran, is accused by the Georgia Department of Corrections (DOC) of smuggling marijuana, cocaine and cell phones into the prison. Copies of the arrest warrant state that Payne attempted to smuggle over four (4) ounces of marijuana and nearly eight (8) grams of cocaine into the prison along with cell phones. Payne has been charged with possessing and delivering drugs to inmates, use of a telecommunications device to distribute drugs, conspiracy to commit a crime, and violation of his oath of office. Chamber cancels July 4 fireworks

The Eastman-Dodge County Chamber of Commerce has cancelled the annual July 4 fireworks show that has occurred in Eastman for more than 30 years.

In a letter written to Eastman City Manager Bea Edge from chamber president Judy Madden, it is stated that after much discussion, the chamber regrets that it will be unable to provide funding toward the 2012 July 4 fireworks display.

The letter, dated February 13, 2012, went on to say that due to the economy, the chamber board has experienced budget cuts. The chamber, City of Eastman and Dodge County shared the cost of the fireworks purchase with the city and county providing $2,500.00 each and the chamber providing $5,000.00.
