FIRE DESTROYS HOME

Mitchell firefighters were called to the residence of Leroy Adams at approximately 11:44 a.m. on Friday, June 24. When firefighters arrived, they found the brick home engulfed in flames, as well as a vehicle that was parked under the carport. Firemen and equipment from Rhine and Wilcox CI assisted with the blaze as well as one fireman from Crossroads and one from Eastman. The house was located at 6129 Abbeville Highway and was considered a total loss. Firemen fought the fire for approximately an hour and 45 minutes. It is believed that the vehicle caught fire and then caught the house on fire. (Photo by Chuck Eckles)

The Dodge County 14U Girls’All-stars went undefeated in the sub-district and district tournaments. Dodge won the championship game against Metter 13-5. The girls will advance to state at the tournament in Screven on July 6-9, 2011. The Dodge County 8U Girls’ All-stars went undefeated to win district. The girls will be the host team in the state tournament to be played in Eastman. The tournament will be July 7-9. Court cases are heard in Dodge Superior Court

Many cases were heard in Dodge Superior Court recently. The following are the results of those cases.
Felony Trial Calendar
Paul T. Peterson was charged with one count felony criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, which was reduced to felony theft by taking. He received five years to serve in prison.
John Tuff was charged with one count felony sale of cocaine for which he received 10 years to serve in prison concurrent with prior sentence.
Carlton Deshawn Keaton was charged with three counts felony burglary, which were reduced to three counts theft by taking. He received five years to serve in prison concurrent with prior sentence. [Full Story »]
